action – Springfield armory model 2020 waypoint

The foundation for the new Model 2020 Waypoint is its all new Model 2020 action. The action of every bolt-action rifle is possibly its most important component. Everything is surrounded and based off of the action. Your barrel is adhered to it, your magazine makes a connection to it, rounds are fed by your bolt through it, your optics are mounted on top of it, and it is bedded into the stock you shoulder. That is why it is so imperative rifle manufacturers do not slouch on their actions, and precisely why Springfield Armory took such attention in creating a good one.

Accuracy and performance begin with the all new Model 2020 action. Precision manufactured from premium materials, each Model 2020 action is the foundation for success and is designed to take advantage of today’s most advanced production techniques. Dual locking lugs on the fluted bolt run smoothly down EDM raceways for perfect, repeatable engagement while an optimized extraction cam provides robust, reliable extraction in any condition. Additionally, the bolt features dual cocking cams for ease of operation and toolless disassembly for maintenance.

carbon fiber stocks – springfield armory model 2020 waypoint

Something that is becoming increasingly popular in the firearm industry, specifically for bolt-action rifles, are the use of carbon fiber stocks. They afford shooters an array of benefits from being lighter in weight to their wood counterparts and are incredibly strong for their feathery demeanor. Springfield Armory joined efforts with AG Composites to bring carbon fiber stocks to their new Model 2020 Waypoint rifle.

Springfield Armory® worked with AG Composites to develop the rifle’s premium line of carbon fiber stocks. When weight matters, carbon fiber’s exceptional capabilities make it the only choice. Each stock is hand-layed, made from 100% carbon fiber and pillar bedded for perfect marriage to the action. With a weight as low as 6 lbs. 9 oz., the Waypoint and its carbon fiber stock strike the perfect balance between rock-solid strength and mobility.

accuracy guarantee – springfield armory model 2020 waypoint

If you decide you want to dive in on one of these new Model 2020 Waypoint rifles, but are curious as to what kind of accuracy you might expect Springfield Armory has an out-of-the-box 0.75 M.O.A. (Minute of Angle) Accuracy Guarantee. As long as you shoot match-grade quality factory ammunition through your rifle, Springfield Armory guarantees you will have a shooter on your hands. Something else that is of note on the Model 2020 Waypoint that correlates to accuracy is the Lock Time of this rifle. Don’t know what Lock Time is? Springfield Armory outlines that below:

Lock time is the time it takes from the break of the trigger until the firing pin strikes the primer. The Model 2020 delivers primer strike in just 1.9 milliseconds, up to 45 percent faster than the competition. Faster lock time means less deviation from your point of aim due to movement during the shot – so when your heart is racing, so is your rifle.

There is honestly a lot to appreciate about this rifle being as it has 5 QD Mounts, an M-LOK compatible section underneath the forearm, AICS Pattern Single-Stack Magazines, and a Carbon Fiber Sleeved barrel to name a few features. The one that you might appreciate the most though is Springfield opting to deploy a TriggerTech trigger in the Model 2020 Waypoint. The TriggerTech trigger is user-adjustable from 2 ½ – 5 Lbs so you can dial in your trigger to what suits you best.

Finally, the one question that has yet to be answered is the price. For the list of features that Springfield Armory incorporates into these rifles they moderately punch in at $1,699 – $2,399 depending on the tier you select and the round you wish to have it chambered in. The 4 cartridges you have to pick from are 6mm Creedmoor, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC (Precision Rifle Cartridge), and .308 Winchester.

The timing of the announcement of the Model 2020 Waypoint from Springfield Armory is impeccable as many of the big-game animal seasons are beginning to open up across the US for all of the hunters in your reading audience. With everything that has been said though, what do you think? Is this something you would be willing to take with on your next big hunt? Would you utilize it for long-range, target shooting? As always, let us know all of your thoughts in the Comments below! We always appreciate your feedback.

It kinda blows my mind that in 2020 people still spend good money on 1890s technology. I almost got myself ate to shit once by a pack of wild dogs because I was using a bolt gun. Scared me to death. Pump, lever, or semi for me from now on.
