POTD: Aerial Sniper with M110 Semi-Automatic Sniper System

The first online photograph is said to have been published by Tim Berners-Lee in 1992. It’s uncertain how many were actually able to see that image at that time, as being “online” really wasn’t invented by then. We at TFB would like to think that our Photo Of The Day is a lot more popular and viewed by far more. Here we do our best to focus on interesting high-quality images with the focus on firearms of all sorts. Today we’re in a UH-1Y Venom helicopter flying over the South Chinese Sea, looking at a reconnaissance marine providing aerial security during a Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS) mission. The rifle is an M110 Semi-Automatic Sniper System (M110 SASS).

The UH-1Y Venom helicopter is with the Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 262 (Reinforced), 31st MEU. It takes off and lands on the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6).

Sniping like this must be extremely difficult. Everything is moving – the target, the helicopter, everything.

The on-board entertainment is great. Actually, this is the Android Tactical Assault Kit (ATAK).
