New Daylight Riflescopes for Danish Soldiers

Quote: "The picture does not show the final Danish version. However, we can reveal that the new screens come in an IR-reflective Flat Dark Earth paint, and that they are fitted as standard with flip covers in a custom color."

Earlier this year TFB heard about a rumor that Denmark was about to replace their Elcan C79 sights. We tried to investigate the news, but we weren’t able to confirm anything. Now we have more, reliable information to share. The procurement organization of the Danish Ministry of Defense – Forsvarsministeriets Materiel- og Indkøbsstyrelse – has given this information. The text is machine translated from Danish:

NEW DAYLIGHT RIFLE SCOPES – Elcan Specter DR (Dual Role)

After a series of thorough tests and discussions with the users’ representatives from the Army Command and the Danish Artillery Regiment, it has been decided that the Elcan Specter Dual Role (DR) is the right replacement for the Elcan C79.
What can the new ones do?
The new ones have a variable magnification, 1-4x magnification, which is acquired for rifle and light machine guns and 1.5-6x magnification, which is acquired for heavy machine gun.
The variable magnification is a great advantage for the shooter, who can quickly and easily switch between magnifications by affecting a small handle on the side of the sight. This flexibility, together with a crosshair, which can be illuminated in two different ways, ensures a dynamic shift while engaging goals.
This is true in different situations and at different distances, where bullet-drop indicators and caution marks in the reticle can be used in both daylight and darkness.
Set to 1x magnification and with the powerful lighting set only on the center spot, SpecterDR can in most situations effectively replace a red dot sight – all within a split second, and without the cumbersome removal and installation.
    Variants
The new day sights are procured in three variants, adapted to the Armed Forces’ requirements for ballistics, color and accessories:
    1-4x for the 5.56mm rifle
1-4x for the 7.62mm light machine gun
1.5-6x for the 12.7mm heavy machine gun
Who gets and when do they arrive?
The Army has initially prioritized the Standing Response Force (SRS). All M60 LMG and all TMG in the Army get the new sights. We expect delivery in the first and second quarters of 2021.
    What about the current sights?
The old ELCANs are maintained immediately before anything else is decided.
Note! The picture does not show the final Danish version.
However, we can reveal that the new screens come in an IR-reflective Flat Dark Earth paint, and that they are fitted as standard with flip covers in a custom color.

ELCAN Specter® DR 1-4x dual role weapon sight

Selected by the U.S. Special Operations Command for elite SpecOps missions, the ELCAN Specter DR 1-4x dual role weapon sight is reliable, amazingly bright and very accurate. Whether the mission calls for clearing a building or open-terrain patrol, the ELCAN Specter DR dual role weapon sight provides both fast acquisition and long-range target identification. It is the only combat sight that switches between close combat battle mode and precision ranged fire mode – in the blink of an eye.

ELCAN Specter® DRLP 1.5-6x dual role weapon sight

The ELCAN Specter DR 1.5-6x dual role weapon sight is a revolutionary optical design that combines the best of close combat and precision fire ranging features into a single, low profile dual-field-of view sight. The dual-role capability gives machine gun operators and designated marksmen a sweeping 1.5x view of the battlefield for target acquisition, and then allows instant switching to 6x for accurate, long-range precision fire and suppression.
