Microtech SCARAB II

On 19th September Microtech Knives held a Grand Opening in their new facility in North Carolina. The opening was also broadcasted live on the Internet, and customers had the possibility to purchase products directly from the show. That was until everything crashed due to popular demand, and judging by the comments on social media it left quite a few disappointed.

In any case, Microtech launched at least one new knife called the Scarab II. The Scarab II is larger than their Combat Troodon, which is a fairly large knife to begin with.

The company also launched several custom Cerakote Ultratech knives.

Overall Length: 9.6“

  • Blade Length: 3.9″
  • Blade Material: M390
  • Blade Style: Drop Point
  • Finish: Stonewashed
  • Model: Scarab

By the looks of it, the SCARAB II is much wider than the Combat Troodon.

Here are the two pictures from the Microtech Gear online shop.

From the invitation to Microtech’s Grand Opening:

Join us for our first-ever live event where you will be able to purchase directly from us during the show. Get ready for new production knife debuts as well as never before seen custom pieces from Marfione Custom Knives. Special guests include Anthony Marfione, TJ Marfione (Heretic Knives), Sean Marfione, Sebastijan Berenji (Borka Blades), Bastien Coves (Bastinelli Knives).

I am sure we’re going to see a ton of variations of the Scarab II in the near future.

Yesterday night – Tanto Tuesday – Microtech also launched the Troodon Mini T/E.
It has a California State legal blade length of 1.99”, and the overall is 5.45”.

The American knife makers had better be terrified that the Chinese brand are going to get into the OTF automatic knife game. I don't mean the cheapos like Ganzo (although Ganzo has stepped up their game lately).

No, I mean WE Knife/.Civivi, QSP, and the like. It was only a matter of time before they took the skills they learned making knives for American companies and brought out a fantastic product.

I buy American as much as i can, but the American knifemakers---especially Benchmade and Spyderco---are pricing their product like it's a custom, and it's not.

I received a QSP Hawk in last month's Going Gear EDC Club box, and it's a fantastic knife. MSRP of $95, and it has better blade centering than the Benchmade Bugout my buddy has.

$512 will buy a GLOCK. Is this knife just some sort of dick-measuring contest for the owners?
