POTD: IWI NEGEV – The LMG of Israel Defense Forces
TFB’s Photo Of The Day is where you can discover the World of firearms through the lens of a camera. Every day we run a few selected pictures with a short story and a credit to the person behind the lens. Today we’re looking at soldiers with the Negev, a light machine gun in 5.56×45 mm, developed by the Israel Weapon Industries (IWI).
The weight of the NEGEV, without ammunition, is 7.6 kilograms.
The photos are from the Israel Defense Forces, taken by Oren Cohen.
It is one of the few, if not the only machine gun, that has a semi-automatic mode. You can see a demonstration below, which is rather impressive.
The NEGEV LMG has a bigger brother, chambered in 7,62×51 mm NATO, called the NG-7. It was recently chosen as a Machine Gun for the Indian Army.
Ex-Arctic Ranger. Competitive practical shooter and hunter with a European focus. Always ready to increase my collection of modern semi-automatics, optics, thermals and suppressors. TCCC Certified. Occasionaly seen in a 6x6 Bug Out Vehicle, always with a big smile.

It's not. The M60E6 in 7.62 NATO by U.S. Ordnance also has semi-auto mode. It was chosen by the Danish military.
