HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Ultimate Boomer Response Edition

Welcome everyone to the 65th edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only have Fudd appeal?  Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you the readers, decided the gold plated Beretta was just fudd crap.

Let’s see what the Staff had to say about this week’s offering:

“Why just shoot the invader when you can also deafen, blind him, and set him on fire?” – Giorgio O.

“Officer Guiterrez and I showed up on the scene of an active shooting whereupon we viewed a man with an OD green revolver. Thinking this man to be the shooter, we began to engage. That is until we saw the Sheepdog™ patch that he was wearing. We realized that we had almost shot a citizen “Active Shooter / Home Invader Responder”. Officer Guiterrez and I are reporting back to threat assessment training this month.” – James Reeves

“If ‘get off my lawn’ was a Gunbroker auction…” – Will P

“For the sheepdog mutt puppy in your life” – Mike R

Smith & Wesson have famously touted that the 460 S&W is the highest velocity revolver in the world.  With a full length 8.38″ barrel, the gun will send a 300 gr Buffalo Bore projectile downrange at 2,060 ft/s with 2,309 ft-lbs of energy at the muzzle.  Commonly the 460 S&W attracts hunters, or maybe the daring target shooter looking for an adrenaline rush.  It seems they forgot to include home defenders and/or active shooter responders in the brochure.

Gotta hand it to this guy though. Between the Hogue extended cylinder release, custom shoulder holster, and speed loaders, he’s given this gun quite a bit of thought. Not to say this thought was of any real value or in any way practical.

Home defense guns are what you choose and some choices are better than others. The debate about what gun is best is something that will go on forever. Do I think a five-shot magnum revolver chambered in 460 S&W is your best choice?  Absolutely not. Do I think this custom 460 is a hot gat?  Well, that’s not my decision to make.  As always I leave it up to you, the reader, to decide.
