The fastest growing segment of the American handgun market undoubtedly has to be carry pistols. In an ever-changing and unpredictable world, more shooters are looking to conceal and carry to protect themselves. With that in mind, Springfield Armory has expanded out their line of XD-M Elite firearms by adding in an XD-M Elite Compact 3.8″ with a shorter frame and grip to match. This robust pistol from Springfield Armory is high-quality and high capacity for concealed carry advocates. The complete specification listing can be read below as presented by Springfield Armory:

  • CALIBER: 9mm
  • COLOR: Black
  • BARREL: 3.8″ Hammer Forged Steel, Melonite® Finish, 1:10
  • SLIDE: Forged Steel, Melonite® Finish
  • FRAME: Black Polymer w/ Removable Extended and Flared “Short” Magwell
  • SIGHTS: Fiber Optic Front, Tactical Rack U-Dot™ Rear

Removable, Extended and Flared "Short" Magwell on the Springfield Armory XD-M Elite Compact 3.8

The current MSRP of the Springfield Armory XD-M Elite Compact is set at $559 which is right in line with its full-frame, 3.8″ sibling in the XD-M Elite line of handguns. Steve Kramer, Vice President of Marketing for Springfield Armory, had these further words to share regarding the announcement of the new Springfield Armory XD-M Elite Compact 3.8″ offering:

This newest addition to the XD-M® Elite line of pistols gives shooters and concealed carry users a great option for EDC. Features like the META™ trigger, fully ambidextrous controls and a funneled, removable magwell make the XD-M® Elite 3.8″ Compact a must-have for CCW.

With the ability to switch out the flared magwell for extended magazines, the META™ Trigger System, and a moderate capacity of 14+1 in the standard magazines, this could be a solid contender for CCW fans out there. Will it be able to contend with the star power of Springfield’s very own Hellcat? Only time will tell, but what is most important is what do you think? Is this something that you would be willing to invest in? Let us know all of your thoughts in the Comments below! We always appreciate your feedback.

I don't like grip safeties, that's why I'm not big on 1911s but love Sig 220s. I feel if you need two safeties in a handgun, you might wanna handle a shotgun.
