Ruger has just released their most patriotic rifle yet with its Fourth Edition Vote 2020 10/22 rifle. Ruger sent me a copy recently to get a closer look at and as with all the collectors series rifles, this one has some quality workmanship put into it as well as some neat additions to the package that make it truly collectible. So today we’ll be looking at the fourth rifle in the 10/22 collectors series and see what it’s all about.

So what exactly is a collectors edition rifle? To put it simply, beginning in 2014, Ruger decided to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the release of the venerated and much loved 10/22 rifle. The 10/22 is probably one of the most popular rimfire rifles ever built and for many, probably the first rifle they ever shot.

Ruger Collector’s Series First Edition 10/22 Rifle

The First Edition Collectors 10/22 featured a commemorative box, 50th anniversary engraved bolt, collectors series pin, street sign, and 10/22 50th anniversary bumper sticker and a replica of the 1964 ad featuring the rifle’s first introduction. The rifle also came with a BX-25 magazine which was a popular offering since it was introduced.

Ruger Collector’s Series Second Edition 10/22 Rifle

The Second Edition Collectors 10/22 was released the following year and was largely the same aside from a few of the markings with the 2015 theme being “Father’s Advice.” This 2nd edition rifle also featured a street sign as well as an added $25 gift certificate for the Ruger store. The rifle also included Ruger’s modular stock which was adjustable for length of pull as well as comb height. The 2nd edition also introduced a pre-installed Picatinny rail and ghost ring sights.

Ruger Collector’s Series Third Edition 10/22 Rifle

The Third Edition Collectors 10/22 came with the theme “Man’s best friend.” The special rifle was meant to honor our four-legged friends who are often our constant companions and best friends. The package came with the modular stock as well as a special tag for your best friend to wear.

Now we arrive at the Fourth Edition Rifle. This year Ruger has picked the theme of voting – a right all Americans share and should be excited about! The Vote 2020 10/22 rifle comes standard with a one of a kind button, limited-edition street sign, a $25 gift certificate for ShopRuger.com, and of course the full-length American flag synthetic stock.

From a collectors point of view, I can appreciate having the same items in each of the boxes. However, one thing I would have liked to see a return to the offerings on the table is something that hasn’t been done since the first edition – the box. The first edition collectors box wasn’t anything super fancy, really just a specially printed version of their older box but at least it set itself apart from the standard Ruger 10/22 box which is how the 4th edition rifle came shipped.

Personally, if I was going to start collecting a series of rifles I’d want a much nicer case to keep them in or at the very least collect them as part of the ongoing series. However, aside from this minor complaint having to do with arguably the least expensive part of the package is about the only complaint I have about the fourth edition rifle.

America, F*ck Yeah!

The coating on the synthetic stock looks very good overall and has a very pleasing look as the stars and stripes run from the back to the front of the rifle. Since this is a collector’s edition rifle I don’t expect the coating to be extremely durable. I noticed a few spots where the finish on the stock had worn off but they were not extremely noticeable.

To accompany this rifle I went ahead and purchased a few extra items to really round out the theme of the rifle. First I ordered some CCI Limited edition Red White and Blue polymer-coated 22LR ammunition. Second, to help bring the colors of the rounds out and add to the build I ordered two clear sided Ruger BX-25 magazines(duct-taped together of course). With these two additions, as well as my patriotic silkies, the rifle really screams like a bald eagle soaring over the fruited plain of our great country.

As a final item for christening the rifle, I took my own Franklin Armory BFS III 22-C1 binary trigger and added it to the rifle for some extra fun on its first range trip. The rifle behaved as you’d expect all 10/22 rifles too since it contains the same components as the rest of them. 10/22 rifles are known for being very reliable, accurate, and easy to handle by many shooters, myself included.

I would like to extend a personal thanks to Ruger for giving me a first-hand look at this collector’s edition rifle. While it may not be a game-changer it serves as a good reminder of a right that we all collectively have and this time the reminder is attached to a tool we use to secure that freedom. I’d be interested to know if any of you out there have started a themed firearms collection. I normally am not one to collect things but I can definitely see the appeal, especially if firearms are involved!
