SIG Sauer has been integrating their M18, the carry-size military version of their P320 pistol, into DoD elements since winning the XM17 Modular Handgun Competition in 2017. The M18 is one of the two handguns (along with its big brother, the full-size M17) replacing the venerable Beretta M9, as it phases out of service after more than thirty years in the US military’s arsenal. Part and parcel of the adoption of a new weapon system is the need for proper training and education about it.
The Soldiers, Marines, Airmen, and Sailors who will be issued these handguns need to be familiar and proficient with them – as does anyone else in the law enforcement or civilian worlds who opt to carry a P320-family variant. To this end, SIG has announced a new airsoft version, the Proforce M18. SIG says, “The US Military M18 modular handgun system is now available for the first time in an operational airsoft format developed for the training professional.”
Other than the obvious differences like the orange safety tip, this airsoft gun is intended to be nearly identical to the real firearm.
