It seems that this isn’t the first time that the revolver has been auctioned off. The revolver itself has had its barrel cut down to a shortened 2 3/8″ length and also comes with a Bohlin holster with the initials “B.L.” on it.
Many will recognize the initials as those of the character of B.L. Stryker from the show of the same name. B.L. Stryker was the late 80s and early 90s detective drama starring Burt Reynolds who played the titular character. The show was starred in by the gun-loving Burt Reynolds and directed by the equally gun-supportive Tom Selleck. However, the TV show only lasted for two seasons with a total of 12 episodes over 2 seasons.
The Rossi Revolver, which looks to be a model 68, generally comes in a 3″ barrel configuration and has a five-shot .38 Special cylinder. The revolvers were produced from 1978 and remained in production in that particular configuration until 1985, after which, Rossi produced the modernized Model 68S from 1993 onwards.
Burt Reynold’s gun came into the possession of KeepShooting.com by way of the Burt Reynolds Estate Auction Catalog at Julien’s Auctions. The revolver was sold at the auction last year in June and was sold with the holster from the TV series Reynolds starred in.
Currently, the revolver remains in a climate-controlled gun vault awaiting a diehard fan of Burt Reynolds’ to purchase it as part of their collection. The revolver and holster are currently for sale on the site for $3,999.95. Normally a Rossi Model 68 sells these days for a price of about $250 or less depending on the condition of the gun.
