Welcome everyone to the 57th edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only have Fudd appeal?  Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you the readers, decided the akimbo AR-10’s were purely fudd crap.

At this time the original auction remains up with the two AR-10 pistols up for grabs.  As always, we hope they find a suitable home with a responsible owner.

In this week’s edition of HGFC, we look at a Model 1878 Gatling Gun chambered in 22LR. As is tradition, this Goliath rimfire blaster is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $10,000 with No Reserve.

Let’s see what the Staff had to say about this week’s offering:

”The true definition of a Fudd’s wet dream” – Matt E.

“Slap a damn brace on this pistol! Hot Gat of the Year” – Giorgio O.

“Does the type of person who has ten Gs laying around for a Gatling gun also worry enough about ammo costs to do it in .22?” – Will P.

Look it even has miniature Broadwell Drums! – Matt M.

List item is a Model 1878 Gatling Gun in .22lr with 15″ barrels. This is classified as a pistol due to the 15″ barrels. This was made by Valley Engraving and Michael Suchka and distributed by Neal E Smith Jr. This has 10 barrels, and 2 100 round box magazines, they attach on top of the gun and use weight to push the bullets down into the cam. This is a consignment item by a good friend and customer of ours. Very neat, could be hooked up to a trailer and transported, features a steering lever to wheel it, has sights on the right side of the action on the support column. It shows some signs of wear like small rust spots that had formed over the years, it was previously used as a living room prop so not shot much by the current owner. For ANY questions, give us a call.

First things first, it’s a ten barrel Gatling Gun, and as such it’s awesome by default.  I think the previous owner had the right idea in using this a living room “prop”.  Certainly, if you own this you have to show it off.

The gravity-fed magazines are, to me, the most interesting and daunting part of this design.  As the magazines themselves are as easy to replace as moon-rocks you’d better hope they actually work.

This engineering marvel does come with a hefty price tag, and certainly wouldn’t be easy to transport to and from your local range.  This is of course assuming that whoever owns this next actually takes it out to the range and doesn’t just put it on display forever.

So is $10,000 too much to ask for a Gatling Gun chambered in a rimfire caliber?  As always, I leave it up to you the reader to decide.
