Happy Saturday everyone and welcome back to TFB’s weekly discussion of silencers and accessories designed to make suppressed weapons perform to their fullest potential. Last week we talked about the current state of the National Firearms Act – a series of laws and regulations initially designed to essentially ban silencers from common use that now forces gun owners to wait a year or more before taking possession of their purchased property. In happier news, this week we take a look at a integrally suppressed scorpion IA-SC9-K from Innovative arms. How does it stack up to the MP5SD, H&K SP5, B&T APC9 and other suppressed pistol caliber carbines on the market today? Let’s take a look.
As an aside, this week’s podcast features Mike Pappas and Eric Rogers from Dead Air Armament. Have a listen.
SILENCER SATURDAY #130: Innovative Arms Integrally Suppressed Scorpion
If I’m being completely honest, I have never been a fan of the CZ Scorpion, based purely on aesthetics alone. But it does have a loyal following for being an affordable, fun and capable 9mm pistol or short barreled rifle (SBR). CZ has done an excellent job in listening to their customer base, making changes where needed and even providing 922r support for those that decide to turn their pistol into an SBR.
Innovative Arms has taken the evolution of the Scorpion up a few levels, possibly surpassing CZ’s own integrally suppressed designs.

You ask us to build a BAD TO THE BONE integral for the CZ Scorpion and we heard you! The IA-SC9 transforms the Scorpion into the perfect shooting experience. It’s industrial strength rugged, sweet to your ears, and gives subsonic velocities with high velocity ammunition. The integral is user serviceable with the baffles numbered for easy reassembly, and comes with the HB Industries 6.84″ handguard kit already installed. All the MLOK slots on the bottom can be used and all of the side slots can be used except for the front two slots of both rows. Offered as a complete integral pistol or as an integral suppressor kit that you install on your personally owned Scorpion. Firearm model ,color, and furniture may vary. Specify with your dealer before ordering. Click the tabs below for more information, including pricing, customer reviews and how to order.
NOTICE: A shorter version of the IA-SC9 will be available Spring 2020. This model is the IA-SC9-K and it can be pre-ordered by your dealer. Heat Shield Sold Separately. The IA-SC9 and IA-SC9-K are not a modular suppressors. Adding a stock to the integral firearm will make it a short barreled rifle and all NFA rules for SBR firearms will apply.
Innovative Arms IA-SC9-K Disassembly/Reassembly:
Unfortunately, the disassembly tool was missing from my review gun box, so I didn’t have a chance to inspect the baffles, blast chamber and barrel porting. If this were my gun, I may gave attempted some sort of WECSOG maneuver, but this pistol his headed back to Innovative Arms shortly.
Fielding the Innovative Arms Integrally Suppressed Scorpion IA-SC9-K
Because I was impressed with the Seismic 185gr 9mm ammunition, I used it exclusively in this weeks review of the IA-SC9-K. When it comes to suppression, I was extremely impressed with the performance of the integrally suppressed Scorpion K. The clack of the action and the bullet impact were the dominating sounds from this compact platform. I’d rank it on par with a B&T APC9 with well performing suppressor and almost as good as the H&K SP5 with a K sized suppressor. Lots of internal volume and barrel porting really make a difference.
I did have an issue with the HB Industries heat shield slipping off after a few shots. It appears to be held in place with a friction fit and a single MLOK attachment on the underside that is a bit frustrating to reinstall. There’s also a chance that I’m just a monkey-fisted moron..
Like all the Scorpions, the right side safety digs into my knuckle marking shooting uncomfortable. But that’s unrelated to Innovative Arms and there are safety deletes available if it bothers you as well.
Although the recoil impulse is heavy like most blow back operated pistol caliber carbines, there was no noticeable gas or particles exiting the action. Another nice surprise.
Wrap Up:
I enjoyed my time with the IA-SC9-K. As integrally suppressed guns go, the IA-SC9-K is priced nearly $1000 less than other options on the market. It performs impressively well with the right ammunition and has a unique, Space Force like look. I’d definitely suggest a pistol brace or splurging for the extra tax stamp to make this setup even more functional. As a compact, suppressed PDW, it’s definitely worth a look.
Thanks for reading. Be safe, have fun and we’ll see you back here next weekend for another Silencer Saturday.
