Occam Defense Solutions has introduced a new Picatinny rail compatible stock called HEX. The choice of the model name is associated with the hexagonal lightening cuts on the stock and the overall shape of the company’s logo. Although primarily made for AK pattern rifles replicating the length of the Magpul MOE AK stock, the Occam Defense HEX stock will, of course, work with any other weapon that has a 1913 rail as a stock attachment interface.

The Occam Defense HEX stock is machined out of a solid block of 6061 aluminum and has a Type III hard coat black anodized finish. This is a fixed, non-folding stock. The rear of the stock has a slightly concave shape and horizontal serrations to better fit your shoulder and provide a more solid purchase. The stock features three built-in ambidextrous anti-rotational QD sling swivel sockets – at the toe, at the heel and another one a couple of inches behind the rail clamp. The location of the latter is a bit unusual as we are used to seeing the sling attachment points closer to the pistol grip. In the bellow embedded video, Brian Keeney, president of Occam Defense Solutions, explains that they opted to place it a little bit to the rear not to have the sling interfere with gripping the pistol grip when doing transitions from shoulder to shoulder.

I think another pair of QD sockets right behind the rail clamp would make the product even more versatile if, of course, it would not compromise the strength of the stock. It would also be nice if it was possible to use the Magpul AK cheek risers on this stock although in that case, they’d probably have to make the cheek rest portion thicker or make adapters for the Magpul cheek risers.

Occam Defense notes that the weight of the HEX stock is within an ounce from the Magpul MOE stock. The weight of the latter is 12.5 oz as seen on Magpul’s website. The Occam Defense HEX stock is listed on the company’s website at an MSRP if $159.99. The estimated start of shipping is mid June.
