POTD: French Army Show Their New Glock 17 Pistols

With so many daily news around it’s easy to forget that at the beginning of the year it was announced that France had selected the Glock 17 as their new service pistol. This Photo Of The Day serves a reminder of this but also shows the pistol it replaces, the MAC 50.

The French government has ordered roughly 75,000 Glock pistols, with a Black-Tan combination. This is a rather unique combination, and it will make it quite easy to recognize. Note that the French Glock 17 will come with a lanyard.

Below you can see the MAC 50, which has been around since the 1950s. The Glock will also replace the PAMAS G1, which is a French-manufactured Beretta 92 not shown here.

Below we see a French soldier shooting the MAC 50.
