HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Ruger Super Sniper

Welcome everyone to the 51st edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or does it only have Fudd appeal? Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

Late time, in our special 50th edition of HGFC, our poll showed that you the readers, deemed the mutilated M1941 Johnson Rifle to be the worst gat of all.

This horribly modified M1941 Johnson Rifle has disappeared from Gunbroker. We can only hope it indeed found a new home, with some responsible parents.

In this week’s edition of HGFC, we have a scoped out stainless steel Ruger MKII. As is tradition, this shiny scoped gat is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $1,225.00 with No Reserve.

Let’s see what the Staff had to say about this week’s offering:

“When a fudd and a “just as good” guy do a collaboration on a gun build.” – Matt E.

“He could run a pencil, fluted, ventilated, weight-savings barrel and still have necessary weight out front with that brick of a handgun scope to mitigate the tremendous rimfire recoil.” – Adam S.

“I wish they’d shined it up a bit more, so the glare would blind me and I wouldn’t have to see this polished turd anymore.” – Will P.

“For $600 more you can also get the pillow as a suppressor…” – Giorgio O.

Selling this shiny scoped Ruger is GunBroker seller Duffy223, located in Sykesville MD. Let’s see what they had to say about this heavily modified and magnified MKII.

This Ruger is in excellent condition with a mint bore. It’s threaded 1/2″x28″. The Bola grips are beautiful. The buffer was replaced with a softer one and the bolt and moving parts polished. The trigger is a custom one with 1-1/2 to 2 pounds pull. The pistol scope is a Tasco 6×40 Pro Class, rare and considered the best of pistol scopes. The duplex is a fine dot. This weapon was benched shooting 1/4″ groups at 50 yards with CCI Standard Velocity ammo, 1070 FPS.

I’ll be the first to admit that the Ruger MK series of pistols are sweet shooters. It’s just everything that comes after you shoot them that is the problem. I mean hats off to this gentleman though. Most people can’t even disassemble a MKII for cleaning, let along customize one.

I’ll be the first to say that an accuracy guarantee on GunBroker is dubious. With that said, the gun looks like it’s in great shape. Even if I’m a little sceptical about the custom work and the choice of the optic.

There are about a million variations of the Ruger MK series pistols available on the market today. It almost seems like there’s a new variation coming out every quarter. Personally, I’ve never paid much attention to this market. Who knows, maybe there’s some collectors appeal that I’m currently unaware of.

But still, with starting bid of $1,225 this better be the most accurate Ruger MKII ever created.

    Why?

For that price, you could step into a brand new SW Model 41, or even start looking at something like a Volquartsen Scorpion, and in that case you don't have to worry about Bubba's own trigger job.

    Hard pass/Fudd Crap.
