Last October, TFB reported that Magpul had released a line of enhanced parts for CZ’s Scorpion. These upgrades included a grip, mag release, and 35-round PMAGs. Today H&K connoisseurs, Nakatomi Plaza hostage-takers, and roller-delayed blowback fans of all kinds can rejoice together. The Scorpion’s granddaddy, the MP5 (and clones like the semi-auto SP5), is getting some fresh parts. Magpul is giving the MP5 its own set of enhancements, bringing a bit of a modern update to this classic design. Let’s take a closer look at the two Magpul MP5 handguard options and the enhanced selector kit available now, plus the grip module set to join the team soon.
Magpul SL Hand Guard – HK94/MP5
The longer of the two handguard options, for use with 8″ barrels.
First up is the SL Hand Guard – HK94/MP5. Designed for H&Ks and clones with an 8-inch barrel and coming in at a $49.95 MSRP, it measures 7.2 inches in length by 1.9 inches wide by 2.4 inches high, and weighs in at 3.8 ounces. The official product details read:
The Magpul SL Hand Guard for the HK94/MP5 is a high-strength, injection-molded polymer handguard solution that provides the user with improved ergonomics and anti-slip texturing. It also includes M-LOK® compatible slots that allow mounting of modern accessories.
Designed for the HK94/MP5 and their clones, it provides increased utility and enhanced control of the firearm. The SL Hand Guard offers M-LOK compatible slots at the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions and features a small muzzle-end hand stop, similar to legacy Magpul SL handguards.
Serves as 922(R)-compliant component for imported HK94/MP5 clones.
Magpul SL Hand Guard – SP89/MP5K
The shorter handguard, for 5″ barrels, features a slightly more aggressive hand stop than its big brother.
Following this longer version is a short handguard for 5-inch barrelled versions, such as the SP89/MP5K and clones. This model is chopped down to 4.2 inches and weighs only 2.1 ounces.
Magpul ESK (Enhanced Selector Kit)
Enhanced ambi selectors could be a nice addition, just make sure you have a compatible trigger pack.

The Magpul ESK (Enhanced Selector Kit) offers a variety of selector levers for the Magpul SL Grip Module & HK Polymer Trigger Housings. Keeping with the Magpul blueprint of innovation, the Magpul ESK results in a modular, ambidextrous selector with enhanced ergonomics. It provides a modern rendition of the classic MP5 SSL with updated aesthetics.
With easier access to the user-configurable levers, the Magpul ESK allows quick firing hand activation and deactivation of the safety and provides for ambidextrous use. Constructed of our high-strength polymer and corrosion-resistant steel, these components are built with the proven reliability Magpul is known for.

The compatibility question specified toward the end of that description references which type of trigger pack is your MP5 or clone is equipped with. If you have the Ambi/Navy/FBI trigger pack, Magpul’s selector will not work. You would need to swap out for the SEF/SAFE-SEMI version instead.
Magpul SL Grip Module
You’ll have to wait a few weeks to purchase a Magpul grip for your roller-locker.
The final MP5 product announced is not yet available, unlike those above. Anticipated to be ready in June, according to Magpul’s May 22nd email blast, will be their SL Grip Module. Official details as follows.
The Magpul SL Grip Module is a high-strength, injection-molded polymer grip module for HK94/93/91 & Semi Shelf HK Clones*. Designed with improved ergonomics, a non-slip texture, and a modern aesthetic, the SL Grip Module brings numerous enhancements without sacrificing the iconic silhouette of the firearm.
Containing innovations found in our other grips, the SL Grip Module provides increased firearm control with a TSP texture and easier to access fire control components through an optimized grip angle. HK “Navy-style” pictograph markings give a clear indication of the selector position while the MIAD®/MOE® Lube Bottle Core provides a 1/2 oz. bottle to keep weapons lubricant close at hand. Compatibility with other MIAD/MOE Grip Cores (sold separately) allows additional options to store critical items. The combination of our high-strength polymer and corrosion-resistant steel components provide proven Magpul reliability.
This product can serve as one 922(r) compliant component for imported HK94/93/91 & SEMI SHELF HK clones.
