Today’s photo of the day features a paratrooper from 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division with a weapon you don’t see every day – a DroneDefender, counter-drone device. The photo was taken during combat training and readiness exercises during Operation Falcon Storm 20-2. During Falcon Storm 20-2 “more than 350 Paratroopers familiarized themselves with weapons to counter unmanned aerial surveillance systems.”
The photo was shared on the 82nd Airborne’s Facebook page on the 24th March, along with a few others:
The DroneDefender is currently owned by Dedrone Defense who acquired the counter-drone system from Battelle in October 2019. DroneDefender uses radio control frequency disruption and is a lightweight, point-and-shoot system with a demonstrated range of 400 meters.
