Multi-caliber user optimized silencer system – that’s how a company called Enfield Rifle Company describes their Novus suppressor which they have introduced recently. What sets this suppressor apart from the competition is that it comes with three sets (.224, .357 and .458 caliber) of six baffles stored inside it that allow configuring this suppressor for optimal performance with a variety of different pistol and rifle calibers up to and including .45 ACP and .458 SOCOM.
So why don’t they just sell different size baffle sets separately? Well, because the spare baffles are regulated as suppressors and you’ll have to pay another $200 tax to acquire spare baffles. In the case of Novus, you get 18 baffles and endless caliber configuration possibilities with one tax stamp.
Of course, you can shoot smaller caliber bullets through baffles with larger apertures (if the suppressor is rated for that caliber), so in this case, if you had just the .45 cal baffles you could use the can with anything up to .45 caliber. However, that won’t result in the most optimal suppressor performance due to the excessively large gap between the bullet and baffle aperture. That’s why if you want to get maximum efficiency, having baffles fitting the caliber is a good idea.
The outer tube of the Novus suppressor is made of titanium and has a Cerakote finish. The baffles are made of stainless steel. The overall weight of this suppressor is 14.2 oz, it is 6.75″ long and has an outside diameter of 1.5″. The Novus suppressor tube is threaded with the 1.375×24 thread pitch which makes it compatible with a variety of mounts. Particularly, as specified on the company’s website, the Novus suppressor works with the following mounts: Dead Air Key-Mo, Griffin Armament Plan A, Q Plan B, Silencerco ASR, Yankee Hill Omega and Torrent Suppressor mounts.
In the tech specs of the Novus suppressor, Enfield Rifle Company also mentions the minimum barrel lengths that can be used with this suppressor:
- 5.56x45mm – 10.5″ min barrel length
- .300 Blackout – 8.5″
- 7.62x39mm – 10.5″ (supersonic) or 8.5″ (subsonic)
- .308 Winchester – 16″
- .300 Win Mag – 18″
- .458 SOCOM – 10.5″
The decibel reduction and full auto compatibility information is not available on the manufacturer’s website.
