HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Aztec or Aztek?

Welcome to the 49th edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only does it only have Fudd appeal?  Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you the readers, found the Harley Quinn themed 1911 to be just a pile of fudd trash. Shocking.

At this time the original auction remains up, while this gat awaits a new home.

In this week’s edition of HGFC, we look at a 24k Aztec Engraved Colt Government chambered in .38 Super. As is tradition, this gold-covered gat is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $4,250 starting bid and no reserve.

Let’s see what the Staff had to say about this week’s offering:

“A true gold plated turd” – Mike R.

“The second ugliest Aztek I’ve ever seen” – Hop

“Looks like Colt has taken to making sacrifices to Huitzilopochtli in order to stay in business” – Rusty S.

“Nothing says “Class” as a gold plated firearm in presentation grade stamped ABS case” – Giorgio O.

Selling this gold engraved gat is GunBroker seller Fords Custom Guns, located in Crystal River Florida.  Let’s see what they had to say about these heavy modifications made to this Colt:

This is a Colt Government model, 70 Series, chambered in .38 Super with a 5″ National Match barrel. The firearm is new, unfired, with original box, paperwork, grips, and one mag.

This gun has been laser engraved with an Aztec theme and plated in 24k Gold. All engraving and plating were performed by Ford’s Custom Plating.

No, this isn’t the first Aztec themed 1911 that has been featured here on HGFC.  There apparently seems to be some sort of link between the Aztecs and Colt that I’m clearly missing…

It would appear that Colt, or someone, is doubling down on the .38 Super Aztec-themed 1911 (for reasons probably only known to certain members of the Illuminati).

The engraving is strange but well executed on this Colt.  It’s so good actually that the factory grip seem to stick out like a soar thumb.  I very much appreciate the fact that it has a match barrel, as this most certainly will be utilized regularly and absolutely will not sit in a safe.

Is there a market for 24k gold guns?  Yes, and we’ve seen multiple guns that have been featured here on HGFC and then subsequently sold afterward. So who knows, maybe there’s someone out there that needs to scratch the Aztec itch.
