Photo Of The Day – We are looking at a spectacular picture of a U.S. Army Boeing AH-64 Apache attack helicopter, from 1st Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment, 12th Combat Aviation Brigade, as it provides overwatch for a Danish Leopard 2 battle tank moving into initial battle position on a live-fire range on Oksbol Training Area, Denmark. The photo is from 2015.

Apart from nuclear weapons and some other nasty inventions, it is hard to find something that is higher up in the food chain on the battlefield than Attack Helicopters and Main Battle Tanks.

If you’re a soldier these are either your best friends or your worst enemies.

The photos below are not from the same occasion, but show the AH-64 Apache using its 30 mm M230E1 Chain Gun. The Apache carries a maximum of 1,200 rounds.

I don’t always switch to the gun, but when I do it’s because I’m too close for missiles.

Note what the paint looks like, really battle worn.
