POTD: Royal Australian Navy in Counter-Terrorism Training

At TFB we’re devoted to finding the best and most interesting firearms-related photos together with a short story. You’ll find them here, every day. In today’s Photo Of The Day, we’re looking at Royal Australian Navy clearance divers from 2nd Commando Regiment as they prepare to board a ship.

This happened during a maritime counter-terrorism training in Jervis Bay, NSW, in September 2019.

Royal Australian Navy clearance divers and Australian Army soldiers from 2nd Commando Regiment conducted maritime counter-terrorism training in Jervis Bay, NSW, in mid-September 2019.

2nd Commando Regiment is home to TAG-East, a short-notice counter-terrorism force able to respond to a terrorism incident of national importance or in support of state/territory-based police.

Navy clearance divers are integrated into TAG-East as maritime counter-terrorism specialists, adding niche maritime planning, diving, demolitions and small-arms skills.

Navy clearance divers are highly trained and specially selected specialists who conduct complex diving missions such as underwater repairs and salvage, surface and underwater demolitions, explosive ordnance render safe and clearance, and reconnaissance.

2nd Commando Regiment is one of eight Australian Army specials operations force units that comprise Special Operations Command.

Special Operations Command is an Australian Army functional command equivalent in status to the other Australian Defence Force operational commands of Fleet Command (Navy), Air Command (Air Force) and Land Command (Army).
