Leupold & Stevens has just announced that its award-winning Freedom Red Dot Sight will now be available in a Black Ring model. The Freedom RDS originally featured the company’s trademark gold ring encircling the objective lens bell. The Freedom RDS is designed for close-range, rapid target engagement.

The new model of the RDS will feature an all-black finish setting it in line with the company’s Mark 5HD, Mark 6 and Mark 8 Riflescopes, all of which have the black ring. The Freedom Red Dot Sight is a tubular style RDS that comes in two variants.

One features a precision Ballistic Drop Calculator elevation turret that is designed around 55 grain .223 ammunition and is exposed, the RDS also features measurements out to 500 yards. The second model features a traditionally capped 1/4-MOA adjustment turret.

The Red Dot sight will ship with a mount included that sets it at an optimal height for flat-top style AR rifles. There is a third version that will be coming out as well, which will have the capped adjustment turrets but will ship without the mount to allow the user to install the sight using their own preferred 34mm tube scope rings.

The Freedom RDS ships with a 1-MOA dot and on the sights medium setting Leupold claims 1,000 useable hours of battery life. This is partially accomplished by Leupold’s Motion Sensor Technology (MST). The MST allows the sight to go into a “standby” mode which conserves battery life. The Sight enters the MST mode after it detects 5 minutes of inactivity. As soon as motion is made the sight activates at the previously selected 8 brightness settings.

The Freedom RDS is made from quality scratch-resistant lenses and Leupolds Twilight Red Dot System. The Twilight Red Dot System gives the user color consistency and lense clarity throughout all conditions. The RDS can obtain up to 80-MOA of adjustment for both windage and elevation.

The Black Ring Freedom RDS weighs in at just under 7 ounces and is 5.5 inches long. The Lightweight construction aids the sight in dispersing recoil energy which improves the durability of the red dot. The optic comes with a lifetime warranty regardless of who is currently in possession of the optic and is also dust/waterproof.

The Leupold Freedom RDS 1×34 Red Dot sight will be sold for $279.99 without the Leupold mount or $399.99 with the Mount. Check out Leupold’s website for more information or to look through some of their other firearm optics or shooting accessories.
