Good afternoon everyone and welcome back to the 120th edition of TFB’s Silencer Saturday brought to you by Yankee Hill Machine, manufacturers of the Resonator line of .30 caliber suppressors. Last week we got introduced to the Gemtech Lunar 9 pistol suppressor. This week I’ve got a potpourri of new additions to the review line up. First up is the super quiet YHM MARC bolt action chassis in 300BLK. Next is the super cool StraightJacket thermal attenuator from Liberty’s Defense. Lastly we make sure everything is super straight with the Geissele Suppressor Alignment Gauge.
Super Quiet: YHM Marc Chassis
A bolt action rifle chambered in a caliber capable of pushing larger subsonic bullets accurately is one of the biggest blessings in the suppressor world. Last year YHM introduced an offshoot company – Graham Brothers Rifleworks – that debuted bolt action chassis, pistols and rifles. The pistols come with Remington 700 barreled actions in either 300BLK or .308 Win (I have both on loan for testing). A short barrel makes it compact, the SB Tactical brace avoids having to shell out $200 for another tax stamp and the closed bolt action makes it a super quiet host. The MARC pistols come outfitted with YHM flash hiders and the Resonator mounting system. I’m looking forward to some range time with some subsonic 300BLK and subsonic .308 from Discreet Ballistics.

Super Cool: Liberty’s Defense – StraightJacket Thermal Attenuator
I have a variety of suppressor covers and they all have their benefits and downsides. I picked up the StraightJacket from Liberty’s Defense after talking with the CGS guys at this years SHOT Show. This is a hard use cover that an take extreme punishment. I’ll get the thermal imager out and see how well it performs in the next few weeks. It is very well made.

Super Straight: Geissele Suppressor Alignment Gauge
I finally broke down and picked up a suppressor alignment rod when I was buying a new Geissele SSA-E trigger (step by step install writeup in process). It’s good peace of mind, especially when you switch mounts, hosts and silencers as much as I do. For new suppressor owners I think it’s a good addition to the toolbox since they can be a little bit more nervous than veteran NFA owners when pulling the trigger for the first time.

The Geissele Suppressor Alignment Gage (SAG) is a precision gage used to verify the alignment of a suppressor to the bore of a firearm barrel.
It is important to understand that the length of the suppressor is usually much longer than the length of the barrel / muzzle device / suppressor interface geometry. A small deviation at the mounting interface means a much larger deviation of the suppressor exit hole. The deviations from nominal can also be additive which compounds suppressor misalignment. The Geissele SAG is manufactured from hardened steel that has been ground 0.002” under nominal bore diameter. The outside diameter of the SAG is finely finished and straight to 0.001” over its length. Geissele hardens the SAG so that it will not wear by sliding exposure to abrasive powder residue, pull burrs if it slides against misaligned baffles nor allow abrasive particle to imbed into the surface of the gage. There can be a wide variation in barrel bore diameters and bore straightness. 0.002” under nominal bore diameter has been found to be the best size of the SAG that will fit most barrels. The long length of the SAG aligns the gage to the bore; it is not necessary to have a very tight fitting gage with the long length of the Geissele SAG.
