In the midst of this current pandemic, Remington Arms has offered to take part in its manufacturing space at their Ilion New York factory and convert it supplies dedicated to combating the coronavirus. Items such as ventilators, surgical masks, hospital beds and other critical medical supplies used in hospitals are in short supply and Remington has offered one million square feet of unused manufacturing space.

Surgical tray kits are a common and necessary item in hospitals that can easily be assembled even by an outsourced company.

Remington Arms to Dedicate 1 Mil Sq Ft of Space to Make Medical Supplies?

The CEO of Remington says that the company is offering to convert the factory if Governor Andrew Cuomo requests it. Ken Darcy addressed a letter on Monday, March 23rd to both President Donald Trump and Governor Cuomo offering up the million square feet of unused space for medical supply manufacturing.

No current plans or intentions exist to convert their current tooling and machinery to produce such items. While Remington won’t be manufacturing the items themselves, they are requesting special permission to exempt them from mandatory shutdowns so that they may continue producing firearms for military and police use.

Brian Lamica, the mayor of Ilion, said the Ilion plant has a history that goes beyond producing firearms, as it has also produced typewriters, sewing machines, bicycles, and fire engines. “It’s absolutely fantastic that the CEO would do that and reach out and try to help,” he said. “I think it’s great,” said John Piseck, executive director of the Herkimer County Industrial Development Agency.

In tandem with other firearms industry businesses, Remington is offering up help to continue the fight against the coronavirus. The logistics of such an operation remain a mystery, however, it is heartwarming to see companies within the firearms industry offer to help. However, only time will tell if the Governor of New York will take Remington up on their offer.
