POTD: Blowing Up Good Old 50 Cals

I feel terrible when I see these pictures, it’s almost like a funeral but I guess it had to be done. What we’re looking at today is an Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) Marine conducting four controlled detonations to dispose of a large quantity of 50-caliber rounds. This happened in Kuwait.

The Marine is assigned to something called the Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force-Crisis Response-Central Command (SPMAFTF-CR-CC). You have to love the abbreviations.

The SPMAGTF-CR-CC is a quick reaction force, prepared to deploy a variety of capabilities across the region. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Sahara Luna)

How do you feel about blowing up ammunition like this?

Can ammunition really get too old?
