Nevada Highway Patrol Moves to the SIG Sauer P320

Nevada Highway Patrol Moves to the SIG Sauer P320
Colonel Daniel Solow of the Nevada Highway Patrol has stated that the transition to the SIG P320 has been “seamless” and that the troopers have been impressed with the accuracy and superior performance of the pistol. In addition, he also stated that the troopers appreciate the custom fit of the P320 pistols, being able to choose a grip size that best suits their personal preference.
The new duty weapon is a modular, striker-fired pistol that is available in several different configurations including full-size through to compact size. In addition to the different sizes, the pistol is also available in multiple calibers from 9mm through to 45 ACP. The Two additional XSERIES and RXP models include improved features which include the ever-increasing optics cut slide. The pistol also has the option for night sights from the factory.
In a quote from Tom Jankiewicz, who is the Executive Vice President for Law Enforcement Sales for SIG Sauer, inc, he said that: “SIG SAUER is honored to continue our long-standing relationship with the Troopers of the Nevada Highway Patrol through their selection of the P320 as their official duty pistol.”
Further commenting on the capabilities the pistol offers: “We are proud of the positive feedback we have received during their transition to the P320, and with the inclusion of the optics-cut on their slides they have the ability to easily expand the pistol’s capabilities in the future with the addition of a red dot optic.”

It will be interesting to see as more law enforcement agencies phase out their aging armories with newer offerings and adopt modern shooting practices. Of particular note, the possibility of officers using a mini red dot optic for duty use is something never before seen for law enforcement. What are your thoughts on this transition? There are agencies starting to allow Red Dots on pistols on an individual basis, but haven't seen an entire agency go that route yet. Houston police academy is graduating their first class that was red dot mandatory.
