Phoenix Technology Featureless AR-15 and AK-47 Grips

At SHOT Show 2020, Phoenix Technology introduced featureless grips for AK-47 and AR-15 pattern rifles. Normally, the ergonomics of featureless grips leaves a lot to be desired, however, these particular ones are quite comfortable. Let’s take a closer look.

As you know, in some states, the combination of certain features can make rifles fall under the definition of “assault weapon” making it illegal to build/own them. For example, in California, if you want to have a detachable magazine, you have to give up a number of other features one of which is the pistol grip. That’s why companies develop grips that don’t fit the legal definition of a pistol grip which, in case of California, reads: ““pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon” means a grip that allows for a pistol style grasp in which the web of the trigger hand (between the thumb and index finger) can be placed below the top of the exposed portion of the trigger while firing.

The Phoenix Technology AR featureless grip is compatible with any standard AR-15 lower receiver. A notable feature of this grip is the thumb rest which is a cylindrical part attached to the side of the grip. This should be especially useful for those of you who practice a precision shooting grip where your thumb rests along your trigger finger. If you don’t want the thumb rest or if you are left-handed and need it on the left side, you can easily configure the grip to match your preferences because the thumb rest is removable and reversible.

The MSRP of Phoenix Technology AR featureless grip is $19.99.

This grip is also quite comfortable for a featureless grip and when installed on an AK, doesn’t look too bad either. Actually, I think the general design of this grip could also make a pretty good angled foregrip. The finger grooves may not be your cup of tea on normal pistol grips, however, for such an extremely angled grip, finger grooves may actually be quite useful providing retention ledges for your fingers and allowing for a more solid purchase when shouldering the rifle.

The MSRP of Phoenix Technology AK featureless grip is $19.99.

I am not going to ask you guys what do you think about featureless grips, because I know the answer. But tell us in the comments section, from all the featureless accessories that you have tried, which one was the best both in terms of looks and feel.
