Leica’s new 5-30x56i riflescope for PRS competitions

Leica has introduced a new riflescope called the PRS 5-30x56i. With the growing marketshare for PRS (Precision Rifle Series) related products it is no surprise to see Leica follow the trend. The more suppliers of this type of optics the merrier for the competitors.

Leica is a German company with a great heritage: founded in 1869 by Ernst Leitz. Did you know that the company name Leica comes from the first three letters of the founder’s surname (Leitz) and the first two of the word ‘camera’: lei-ca?

If we take a quick look at what the new Leica PRS has to offer we find a 6-power zoom factor in the region between 5-30x, which is perfect for flexible use in long-range sport shooting and competitions.

Competitors want Field Of View (FOV) to be able to find the target and target shift, and the ability to zoom in once they’ve found the target.

The reticle is in the first focal plane and has a 100+ MOA adjustment range (32 Mils).

The zeroing is said to be “tool-free” and there is an on-board tool for zero-stop adjustments.

As usual with Leica products we can expect a high-end product, with outstanding optics and a very rugged design with good ergonomics.

    NEW: Leica PRS 5-30x56i riflescope

For optimum performance in long-range shooting

With the new Leica PRS 5-30x56i, Leica Sport Optics (Wetzlar, Germany) presents a top-class riflescope for long-range sport shooting – in a perfect design. Its magnification range of 5x to 30x offers a wide array of uses – from long-range target shooting to competitions over extreme distances and under the most difficult conditions.

The shooter can concentrate fully on the target: High light transmission of over 90% masters even challenging light conditions. The large adjustment range of the reticle in the first focal plane is ideal for the longest distances.

The Leica PRS 5-30x56i is equipped with a 6x zoom, which allows flexible use at various ranges.

Tool-free zeroing of the turrets ensures fast and flexible operation under extreme conditions. Thanks to the “zero stop” function, shooters can quickly and and easily adjust the Leica PRS 5-30x56i to their individual requirements, using the on-board tool.

Its functional design is geared to the particular needs of long-range shooters: Extremely rugged and uncompromisingly made of high-quality aluminum, allowing intuitive and safe handling in any shot situation.

The new Leica PRS 5-30x56i long-range riflescope is available as a ring variant with three reticles: a classic L-4a reticle, a ballistic reticle with hold marks, and a special PRB reticle for precision rifle shooting. The center tube diameter is 34mm, and all models have reticle illumination. The sun visor and the screw-in throw lever are included in the scope of delivery.

“The new PRS 5-30x56i is the choice for long range shooting. Pure design, user-friendly handling and intuitive pleasure of the crystal-clear optics result in the essential rifle scope,” explains Ferdinand Mogwitz, Product Manager Leica Hunting Optics.

Models and recommended retail prices (incl. VAT):

    51100 – Leica PRS 5-30x56i (L-4a reticle) € 2,700,00
    51200 – Leica PRS 5-30x56i (L-Ballistic reticle) € 2,700,00
    51300 – Leica PRS 5-30x56i (L-PRB reticle) € 2,700,00

Just note that the VAT within Europe is normally around 20%, and I am guessing that the prices will be similar in US dollars.

You can find an overview of the different reticles here.

The new Leica PRS 5-30x56i riflescope should be available now.

In my opinion it’s pretty clever marketing from Leica to use the brand new $5,000 Proof Research MPA Chassis Rifle as bearer of their new PRS scope.
