AU Radien – New Over-Barrel Suppressor from Ase Utra

    Ase Utra Raiden

Ase Utra Oy from Suomi, Finland is one of the largest manufacturers of sound suppressors in the World.

If you, like me, have no idea how big a company has to be to classify for that title we get a little help from Ase Utra as they claim the make over 10,000 suppressors each year.

The Finnish company has developed and manufactured sound suppressors for the needs of hunters, sport shooters and military and law enforcement users since 1994.

A fun fact is that according to the law in Finland a firearm silencer is only classified as a “firearm part”.

This means that you (in Finland) can purchase a suppressor and the only requirement is that you show your firearm ownership permit.

    Permits for firearm components

According to the Firearms Act, a permit is also required for acquiring and possessing certain firearm components. These include frames, barrels, chambers, breech-closing devices and their frames, breech blocks, silencers and functionally equivalent components when these are detached from a firearm.

Individuals who have a permit for possessing a firearm made up of these components do not need to apply for a separate permit for acquiring replacement components. However, they still need to notify the police of any such acquisitions and present the acquired component to the police within 30 days of acquisition. Silencer acquisitions do not need to be reported to the police if the individual concerned has a permit for possessing a firearm.

A firearm component is considered to constitute a replacement component if the type, mode of operation or calibre of the weapon does not change when an existing component is replaced with the component in question. A firearm component is not, however, considered a replacement component if, by introducing the component, the weapon is changed from not being a pocket gun into a pocket gun.

If you like suppressors, Norway is another good example of a suppressor friendly country, as suppressors aren’t regulated and can be purchased by anyone for any firearm. (Source)

    Ase Utra AU Radien

With those “few” words as a background, lets look at Ase Utra’s a new product. They call it a “new standard for light over-barrel hunting suppressors” and it’s named the AU Radien.

With a weight of just 290g (10.2oz) it is said to offer superior recoil reduction and between 29-31dB net sound suppression at ear level using a .308 AU Radien. The AU Radien is made of hardened anodized aluminium and is available for .223, 6.5mm and .30 non-magnum calibres.

The overall length is 210 mm (8,3″) and it extends the barrel by only 110mm (4,33″) and the 45mm (1,77″) diameter, which keeps the suppressor nice and slim.

The product will be available in March through Ase Utra’s distributors and it was on display at Jagd & Hund show in Dortmund last weekend.

We know, we know… A light over-barrel suppressor for hunters has been missing from our portfolio for years. We have now fixed this issue and we fixed it well! We’re happy to annnounce the newest addition to our product family:

Ase Utra Radien -series combines light weight and excellent sound and recoil reduction. It weights only 290 grams, but provides net suppression of 29 – 31dB on the ear level with a .308 win. Radien is made of hard anodized aluminium and is available for .223/6.5mm and .30 (non-magnum) calibres.

The price is expected to be about similar to Ase Utra’s current SL6i suppressors, which retails for about 360-390€ (about 380 USD) depending on the market.

Please note that Ase Utra’s products aren’t available in the USA. However, they are available in Canada and you can find a list of distributors here.

At the moment the AU Radien is not on their homepage, but you can check Ase Utra here.
