During the SHOT Show 2020, Century Arms has introduced a number of new AK variations that will be added to their product line in the foreseeable future. These guns include a couple of new iterations of the VSKA rifle, a 9mm WASR and a prototype of a 5.45x39mm AK that is currently in development. Let’s take a brief look at each of the new Century Arms AKs.
WASR-M
The WASR-M is a pistol caliber carbine that despite being chambered in 9mm and fed from Glock magazines, still retains a lot of that classic AKM appearance. The MSRP of this PCC is $679.99.
VSKA-DG
DG literally stands for Dong Grip. These are basically standard VSKA rifles that will just come with newly made lower handguards patterned after modified (cut at an angle) Romanian “dong” grips. The MSRP of VSKA-DG is $759.99.
MICRO VSKA
Micro VSKA is the pistol version of the VSKA family of American made AKs. Apparently, it will come with a short top Picatinny rail section, birdcage style muzzle device, and stabilizing brace. This pistol is also equipped with a Micro Draco style lower wooden handguard which I honestly think completely ruins the aesthetics of the gun. The MSRP is $774.99.
5.45x39mm AK
Century Arms is developing a new American made AK chambered in the 5.45x39mm caliber. It mostly resembles the venerable AK-74, yet has one significant difference – the bulged RPK-pattern front trunnion. This author thinks that the bulged trunnion is an unnecessary reinforcement for civilian semi-auto AKs chambered in intermediate calibers (unless you launch rifle grenades), however, that’s just my opinion and apparently, the market wants bulged trunnions. With the introduction of Hornady brass-cased 5.45x39mm ammunition and with such US-made firearms being developed, I think we are witnessing the start of a new chapter in 5.45’s American adventures.
The MSRP of the 5.45 rifle is yet to be determined.
