One of the most talked about items at Shot Show 2020 was the release of Vortex’s Razor HD Gen III 1-10×24. Vortex has been known for their Razor line of optics and the previous 1-6×24 was one of the clearest scopes I’ve ever used. The new Razor HD Gen III takes what was good about the previous models and adds magnification, so lets take a look at what the Razor HD Gen III 1-10×24 is all about.

EBR-9 Reticles

The new 1-10×24 Razor is a first focal plane optic that gives users the ability to shoot quickly between targets or have up to a 10x magnification. While designing the new Razor 1-10, Vortex has went with the EBR-9 reticle. There are two different styles of EBR (Enhanced Battle Reticle) which are the EBR-9 MRAD and EBR-9 MOA. Depending on the needs of the shooter, each reticle will offer various positives of each system. The EBR-9 is built for quick shooting with the reticle having marks every 50 yards out to 650 yards and 5 mph wind increments from side to side. There’s also an MOA scale built into the scope for extended shots to judge distance.

The EBR-9 MRAD has almost all of the features of the MOA reticle but has a more detailed wind hold grid built into the optic. Vortex is saying there are enough wind holds and magnification to reach out to a 1,000 yards and beyond. The ranging feature is also present with the MRAD by having a number of lines with their distances labeled next to the dashes. This makes ranging without a range finder much faster for those long distance shots that need to be quick but accurate.

Specs

Dimensions between the 1-6×24 and 1-10×24 are exactly the same. The overall length of both optics is exactly 10.1 inches and height is 1.8 inches with the 1-6×24 coming in at 1.81. If anything that means the new 1-10 Razor is identical to the older system but has much more magnification than the previous model. The overall weight of the Razor 1-10×24 is 21.5 oz and has a 34mm tube instead of the older generations 30mm tube.

The new Razor optic will come with Vortex’s Anodized Stealth Shadow Finish and will have the same low capped turrets and locking illumination dial as previous models. MSRP on the Vortex Razor 1-10×24 will be $2,899 and should start shipping around April of 2020. Let me know what you guys think about the new Razor Optic in the comments below. I plan on purchasing one for testing so stay tuned for my review in the coming months. If you have any questions feel free to contact me on Instagram @fridgeoperator. Stay safe out there.

"Dimensions between the 1-6×24 and 1-10×24 are exactly the same"- I see someone compromised something here.

I am presuming it is the eyebox, and other optical qualities.

@Steve Every optic has compromises, and I'm a little loathe to bash Vortex for having made reasonable choices, even if I don't love them. I would have been somewhat more impressed with it if Vortex had bumped up the objective size and added parallax controls - but that would have added some weight, too, and it seems like the weight/size constraint was a big deal for this optic.
