SILENCER SATURDAY #109: The 2020 SHOT Suppressor Show
Good afternoon everyone and welcome back to TFB’s Silencer Saturday brought to you by our friends at Yankee Hill Machine. Yesterday marked the end of SHOT Show 2020 which is always an awesome, but grueling week of early mornings, late nights and dozens of miles traveled on foot. Unfortunately for me, I spent most of my time in meetings for a special project we will be debuting in a few weeks. Which means I didn’t really set foot on the floor until Thursday afternoon. Thanks to our best-in-class team of writers and videographers, we were able to bring you a high volume of interesting new releases. I spent my limited time on the floor putting together images for a 2020 SHOT Suppressor Show.
I was also able to catch up with industry leaders and friends and finally get face to face with people I’ve always wanted to meet in the silencer industry. The list includes, SIG, Dead Air, YHM, CGS Group, SilencerCo, Rugged, Thompson Machine, Energetic Armament, B&T, Silencer Shop, AMTAC, Gemtech and more. The below listed companies had a TFB writer and/or videographer assigned to them for SHOT coverage. So if you don’t see the information you need and there isn’t a corresponding article or video, hang tight, we are publishing SHOT content through 1/31/2020.

The guys at Yankee Hill continue to put out incredible products. I predict the YHM Resonator K and the R9 will be big hits this year.
In this episode of TFBTV, James Reeves visits the Yankee Hill Machine booth at SHOT Show 2020 and gets to scoop on new silencers, including modular cans with third party muzzle device compatibility, an integrally suppressed AR-15 upper, and more.
The Energetic Armament booth is one of my first stops. Karl and Steve are awesome, laid back and love their jobs. Check out the new Lux that drops in at under eight ounces. They also have a linear compensator that acts as a delivery system for 5.56 endcaps for the Vox line, which in previous releases was only available with 7.62mm caps. EA also has a slick new muzzle device that doesn’t require shims .

The Lux™ silencer is a lightweight precision engineered rifle silencer. The silencer core is welded to AWS standards from US Origin, DFARS compliant, 6Al-4V titanium. The Lux™ silencer, including the Centrix™ mount is 7.9 in. long, 8.82 oz. and features an 7 baffle core with the patent pending Serial ID ring. This serial ID ring allows quick factory replacement of the core, should damage ever occur, without loss of alignment or concentricity. The silencer utilizes the industry standard 1.375×24 mount thread pattern allowing a wide range of mount options including the Centrix™ mount. The internal surfaces of the Lux™ are coated with a proprietary boron nitride process to provide wear and fouling resistance. The external surfaces are finished with Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC). This finish is dark gray and provides excellent surface protection for your silencer.

The Centrix™ precision mount system was engineered to provide a simple, reliable mount for your silencer with precision repeatability. The system consists of a Centrix™ mount which is installed in the silencer and a Centrix™ brake which is secured to the barrel of the rifle. The mount attaches to the brake with a left handed stub-acme thread. this beefy thread profile resists accumulating debris and is protected from fouling and carbon lock by a preceding gas lock taper seal. Should the mount become stuck on the brake, the left handed thread ensures the brake will not come loose from the barrel. Additionally wrench flats are provided both on the mount and brake assembly allowing tools to be used to apply and oppose torque as necessary.
The mount, made of DLC coated titanium, is designed for the industry standard 1.375×24 thread pattern found on many silencers including the Lux™ and Vox™. The brake, nitrided 17-4 Stainless, has a standard 5/8-24 thread. The brake is self timing allowing it to be rotationally aligned and secured without sloppy washers used to time other muzzle devices. The brake is locked in place with a jam nut collar that locks against the barrel’s shoulder. A taper lock version will also be available for barrels with tapered rather than shouldered muzzles.

It was great to finally connect with Josh and plan on a review for early this year. Their end cap system that allows for a choice of flow-through or a traditional style suppressor is so simple it’s genius. Their machinegun suppressor survived (and performed) a 1,000 belt on the M240 – continuously. And check out the Liberty’s Defense Straightjacket heat shield wrap. Looks like it can take a beating.

One of the surprise hits this year was the integrally suppressed KelTec Sub2000. It looks like they are due out in the late summer with a price point starting at about $1K. I heard it on range day and it sounds fantastic for a blowback gun.

Brooks and Richard are two of my favorite people in the industry. They have way too much fun for it to be considered “work”. Thompson Machine has a handful of neat cans coming out early this year starting with the NDK – a maximum suppression rimfire can. The Neptune9 will be a hit for price and performance and the Elysium and Elsa J are targeted at the PCC market. We may have a straight month of Thompson Machine reviews this year.
Thompson Machine Neptune9 9mm suppressor – $495 MSRP
Thompson Machine NDK Rimfire Suppressor – $395 MSRP
Thompson Machine Elysium 9mm suppressors.- $315
Thompson Machine Elsa J 9mm suppressor – $449 MSRP.

I was able to shoot the new SIG rifle suppressors and I was really impressed. Virtually no blowback and the performance was great. We are still at least six months away from seeing them be available to consumers and the design may change slightly from a more MIL focused flash reduction and muzzle attenuation to an at the ear maximum suppression consumer-style design. Honestly, if you don’t own one of the older SRD cans, now’s the time to look for discounts. They are great performers and will hold you off until you can find one of the new ones at the end of the summer.
In this episode of TFBTV’s SHOT Show 2020 coverage, James talks to John Hollister of Sig Sauer about the company’s NEW 3D printed silencers for pistolsand rifles in Inconel and titanium. The pistol models will be made in 9mm and .45 calibers, and they are going to be completely modular, allowing the user to add and remove baffles to adjust size and performance as needed. SIG is also unveiling a line of rifle titanium and inconel silencers in 5.56mm, .300BLK, 7.62, and 6.5 CM sizes. Check the video for all the new details.

The AK20 is awesome. That is all.

The SureFire ELR cans are squarely centered on the precision rifle shooter. The titanium Ryder 9 Ti2 underwent some design changes. Quality cans, quality company.
Brannon LeBouef of NOLATAC, sat down with #surefire for TFBTV to discuss their new offerings for 2020. Surefire is a leader in illumination devices, and they did not disappoint this year.

I spent most of my time at the Thunder Beast Arms talking about the B&K Pulse metering system but I did get to handle the new Dominus lightweight hard use can. Impressive!

About the CGS Group can with the endcap that turns it into a “flow through” suppressor: what do the rest of the baffles look like? I didn’t think the front cap alone made a big difference in backpressure.
What about Delta P? :(
