Norma has started off the year with a BANG! with their Norma MHP (Monolithic Hollow Point) by garnering adulation and strong attention from the shooting industry as a result of their all-copper construction projectile. The National Rifle Association (NRA) has awarded Norma a Golden Bullseye Award for being selected as Shooting Illustrated’s 2020 Ammunition Product of the Year.
To expand on the prior success and demand of their 9mm MHP ammunition, Norma has gone on to produce the MHP round in .380 Auto as well. This should come as very welcomed news for the faction of shooters who are adopting new popular carry pistols like the Glock G42, SIG Sauer P238, Springfield Armory 911, and many others. The characteristics those shooters will soon be able to appreciate in their carry ammo can be read below as presented by Norma:
- Optimized load for reliable performance in all barrel lengths
- One of the largest expanding defensive hollow point bullets in the world
- Designed for reliable feeding out of pistols and pistol caliber carbines
- Cold formed monolithic copper metal construction for extreme terminal performance
- Extremely consistent penetration and expansion in gelatin and clear ballistics
We had the opportunity to shoot some of this ammunition while out at “Industry Day at the Range” at SHOT Show and found it to be extremely flat shooting over considerable distances. While firing the 9mm MHP out of a Springfield Armory Hellcat and the .380 Auto out of a Glock G42, it was essentially “point-of-aim, point-of-impact” accurate out to 25 Yards. A better explanation as to why this likely is can be gained from Norma’s own Press Release statement about their MHP line of ammunition:
The Norma Monolithic Hollow Point (MHP) is an all copper bullet with massive expansion and excellent stopping power. Its nose design results in reliable feeding in all pistol and carbine chambers. It is specifically calibrated for consistent, devastating terminal performance, regardless of barrel length. By achieving reliable, excellent expansion, time-after-time, the Norma MHP is poised to set a new standard for personal defense ammunition.
There is absolutely no shortage of ammunition options for one’s carry gun in today’s market. So, where does someone start? Well, when you have someone like Norma who is producing a reliable, all-copper hollow-point that is winning awards that is a great place to start.
