Cabot: Modern Art on a Classic Canvas

Ah, the SHOT Show lower level dungeon.  It can be a place of darkness and despair, filled with the noxious fumes of B.O. and burnt food court fare.  In this maelstrom, however are hidden gems.  Gleaming like a beacon through this gloom was the display of Cabot Guns and Alchemy Custom Weaponry.  Made with such materials as fossilized mammoth tusk, tyrannosaurus rex bones, and the occasional meteorite and with prices starting in the $2000’s and up to “if you have to ask…”, I view these less as firearms and more as art pieces you can shoot.

Some Standout pieces were the American Joe, the SOB with acid etched engraving and mammoth grips, and the ICON, a minimalist style piece machined from 416 stainless billet steel.  Topping the entire display was a geodesic variation of Cabot’s Damascus style.

On the more practical side, Cabot had a blacked out 1911 with a rail and a threaded barrel called the “Nero”.  The Nero can be had in 9mm or .45, as a commander or full size frame, and with any number of permutations of sights, checkering, and other options you can imagine.  When you order a gun from Cabot, you can have it pretty much any way you like.

Sharing the booth (and shop space) with Cabot was Alchemy Custom Weaponry.  Alchemy was acquired a few years ago by Cabot.  With master level gunsmiths, they also deal primarily in the world of custom 1911s.  One of their most unique offerings was a 1911 with a bobbed hammer made to fit flush with the slide and frame.  This effectively blends the look of the Colt 1903 with the 1911, creating a very classy looking piece.  MSRP starts at $2995.
