[SHOT 2020] – IWI’s New Zion-15 Rifle

IWI US has unveiled their new rifle for Shot Show 2020 called the Zion-15. In recent years, IWI has been known to make the ACE rifle and pistol line along with the X95 and a number of various bullpup rifles and shotguns. IWI has decided to jump into the AR-15 market with their new Zion-15 rifle.

    Zion-15 Specs

This new rifle is something exciting for IWI US because its the first rifle manufactured in the United States entirely. The Zion 15 is a direct impingement rifle with a mid-length gas system, a 16 inch 4150 Chrome Moly Vanadium barrel a full-length free-float M-Lok handguard. The Zion-15 felt extremely fairly light in the hand and the official weight of the Zion-15 is right around 6.5 pounds. The twist rate on the new Zion-15 is 1:8 and the muzzle device that comes standard is the A2 standard birdcage but is easily changed if that’s not your preferred muzzle.

    Overall Feel and Initial Thoughts

One of the biggest complaints from people is the price point of most IWI’s. There’s a group of people who say IWI’s rifles are too expensive and exclude a number of people out of buying one. I think the Zion-15 is the answer to those complaints. With the MSRP on the rifle being $899, it makes it much easier to own an IWI rifle without breaking the bank. The fit and finish looked great and it had some features which made the rifle a great option for someone who wants to keep their AR under $1,000.

I was impressed with the nitrided bolt carrier group and the overall presentation.  It comes with B5 Systems furniture and I think the overall fit and finish are excellent with a pretty good amount of value.
