FN unveiled two new additions to its civilian lineup at this year’s SHOT Show.  In an effort to add even more range to the SCAR20s, FN released a new variant chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor.  The FN 509 series also received a new addition with the FN 509 Compact.

FN SCAR20S 6.5 Creedmoor

With the growing popularity in both the civilian markets, the SCAR20S in 6.5 Creedmoor makes a lot of sense.  6.5 Creedmoor in a 20in barrel is able to take full advantage of this longer barrel.  All of this is accomplished while leaving the internals (aside from the barrel of course) unchanged.

The only notable difference between the earlier SCAR20S, and the new 6.5 Creedmoor, is the muzzle device.  FN decided to add a Surefire ProComp 762 muzzle device from the factory.

This small addition to make the rifle more silencer ready is no surprise.  No more than 50ft away from the SCAR20s civilian did I spot an FN MK20 SSR chambered in 6.5 Creed with a suppressor attached.  It would appear more than one company is trying to get the military to adopt 6.5 Creed at this year’s SHOT Show.

FN 509 Compact

FN also released the new optics ready FN 509 tactical.  There was a myriad of different optics mounted to the new 509 to showcase the versatility of the new subcompact.

My favorite thing about the FN509 compact was the addition of raised or suppressor height sights.  These were able to easily co-witness over any of the optics displayed.

The 509 compacts will ship with either a standard 12 round magazine or 10 round state complaint magazine.

In addition, models with standard 12 round capacity magazines will also ship with an additional 15 round magazine.  The 15 round magazine has a slightly extended base plate that’s visually similar to the one found on the 509 Tactical.
