[SHOT 2020] A Name Change and New Products from Sun Optics

SOUSA RAID on the low mount (Matthew Moss/TFB)

I stopped by Sun Optics’ SHOT Show booth to find they are now known as SOUSA (Sun Optics USA – see what they did there?) With the new name comes a series of new ranges of optics including red dots and scopes. For now the company’s popular mounts will stay under the Sun Optics banner.

First up their red dots, the RAID series, with both pistol and rifle 1x red dots available. The RAID and RAID Micro rifle red dots 2 night vision settings, 11 brightness levels and use cast aluminium housings and are compatible with a number of after-market mounts. Both optics have 2 MOA dots. The RAID has an MSRP of $249 while the RAID Micro comes in at $229, with high, medium and low mounts included.

The RAID has a battery life of 40,000 hours while the Micro has a life of 50,000. Last in the RAID line is the RAID Pistol which is compatible with RMR cut mounts and has a lens coating which doesn’t block infra red light allowing use with night vision devices. The pistol red dot comes with a low profile ‘rail grabber’ mount and has a battery life of up to 500 hours. The RAID Pistol is available at $179.

New iterations of the RAID Pistol are also on the way with features including an on/off motion sensor, an ambient light scanner are expected in mid-2020. SOUSA also offer the Mantis a 1-6×24 second focal plane optic weighing in at 18.3oz. The Mantis has a one-piece 30mm tube and is nitrogen purged. It has an MSRP of $249.

Also coming soon is their new Revenge range of optics available in 1-8, 2-16, 3-18 and 5-25, these will have 30mm tubes, will be nitrogen purged and have hydrophobic lens coatings. All of the Revenge range will retail for under $500 according to Stephen Morgan, the company’s chief engineer who previously worked at Vortex.

With the RAID and Revenge ranges representing attractive entry level options SOUSA also told us that through 2021 and 2022 they would also be rolling out other ranges, Chaos, Mayhem and Havoc, at other price points – these are all currently under development.
