[SHOT 2020] Six New Models from Kalashnikov USA

Kalashnikov USA unveiled six new models across three calibers on the opening day of SHOT2020.  Multiple variations of the six new models were showcased with a variety of modifications and accessories.

    KR9 & KP9

    [SHOT 2020]

The KP-9 and KR-9 series are Kalashnikov USA’s newest 9mm semi-automatic AK style rifles and pistols.  Both are based on the Russian Vityaz-SN submachine gun design used by Russian special forces.  While the KP-9 pistol has been available for a few months, it’s the ability to accept accessories made it very popular during the first day of SHOT2020.

Multiple variants of each platform were on display for both rifle length guns and NFA restricted firearms now available.  It appears that the market for both US made AK’s and accessories are continuing to grow.

Of the accessories showcased by Kalashnikov, the new drum mag is my favorite.  The 50 round drum is manufactured exclusively for Kalashnikov USA by F5 Manufacturing.

    Komrad, KS12, and KS-12T

Unseen at SHOT Show was the KS-12, which is currently sold out due to higher demand.  The KS-12T still made plenty of appearances in the booth in both NFA and Non-NFA configurations.

Both the KS-12 and KS-12T accept 2.75″ and 3″ shells that feed from factory Kalashnikov USA magazines.  However, if you have Saiga 12 magazines, these will work as well.

Of the shotguns seen, the Komrad was the most interesting.  Designed to be the best in home defense, this Non-NFA shotgun is based off the legendary Saiga family of shotguns.  It also accepts 2.75″ and 3″ shells and has an adjustable gas system.

The Komrad’s barrel length is only 12.5″ long and features an SB Tactical Pistol brace, tri-rail forend, vertical forward grip, and a side-mounted optics rail.

Both the Komrad and KS12 feed from the same steel-reinforced Saiga pattern magazines, and will accept most Saiga accessories.

    KR103

    [SHOT 2020]

Last but not least is the new KR103 chambered in 7.62×39.  This all American variant is based off the AK-103 that was one of the last designs overseen directly by Mikhail Kalashnikov.

    [SHOT 2020]

Based off the AK-74 the 103 accepts all AK-74/AKM furniture and accessories.  On display were magazines made in the US by Kalashnikov.

With modern features and the Kalashnikov name attached, the KR103 has been a big-ticket item since it was announced.  It looks to be the perfect blend of old school and new school for the AK enthusiast.

Thank you to Kalashnikov USA for taking the time to answer all my questions. For more information visit their website.
