New Rifle Rounds
First up in the “new” department from Winchester ammunition this year is two new loads for their .350 Legend straight walled cartridge. The first is a 160gr PowerMax Bonded bullet moving at 2,225 fps out of the muzzle. For quiet applications, Winchester now offers a Super Suppressed subsonic load, 255gr @ 1,060 fps. I tried both out and both had extremely mild recoil.
Next up are two new 6.5 Creedmoor loadings. The first is a 125gr Copper Extreme Point bullet in their Deer Season Copper Impact XP line, moving at 2,850 fps. Their new Ballistic Silvertip 6.5 Creedmoor is 140gr and has a muzzle velocity of 2,710 fps.
New Pistol Rounds
Winchester now offers Silvertip handgun ammo in 8 new loadings, including 10mm (sadly none to try at the range today), 357 mag, 38 special, 40 S&W, 45 Auto, 9mm and .380. The .380 loads functioned perfectly for me.
New Shotgun Shells
Winchester has a new line of shotshells called AA “Diamond Grade”. What sets Diamond Grade apart is that the shot has 8% antimony, which they claim is 4X harder than standard target loads. The pellets are also sorted, with only the “most spherical” being selected for use. The pellets are then copper plated, resulting in denser patterns downrange.
Also new in the AA Line is “Super-Pigeon”, a 12ga, 2 3/4″ 7 1/2 shot size shell with a muzzle velocity of 1220 fps. “Super Target” is the other new AA line extension, with all 12 ga loads for now. The Super Targets are claimed to have lower recoil due to the hinged wad.
