Chances are, if you’re a firearms fan and have ever discussed “top movie shootouts” or “best gun films“, the classic 1995 heist action/thriller “Heat” has entered into the conversation. The infamous rolling shootout scene, which takes place on the streets of Los Angeles following a botched smash-and-grab bank robbery, is often hailed as one of the best action sequences in a film. Featured heavily in this scene are the robbers’ Colt 733s, converted to full-auto. These Colt Commando models are wielded effectively (complete with some controlled bursts and competent mag changes) by Robert De Niro as criminal Neil McCauley and by his partner-in-crime Chris Shiherlis, played by Val Kilmer. Colt Commandos are popular with the retro/cloner crowd, and for good reason. The design oozes nostalgia, and there’s an air of old-school cool about the fixed A2-style front sight with the integrated carry handle rear sight. Dead Air Silencers and Noveske Rifleworks have taken that inspiration and partnered up on an interesting “enhanced” 733-style collaboration, limited to only 50 units nationwide.

With Dead Air’s Sandman-K, you won’t have to deal with the same muzzle flash De Niro/McCauley did.
With a $2,995 MSRP, these special-edition 5.56 movie guns will feature a specially-marked Noveske/Dead Air gen 1 lower receiver, Noveske A1E1 upper, an 11.5″ light Commando barrel, “Elite Smoke” Cerakote, and a Forward Controls Design flash hider. On this flash hider, you can affix your matching serial-number Dead Air Sandman-K suppressor, which helps give the gun a sort of classic CAR-esque look – but with the obvious added benefit of sound dampening. Rounding out the package is a period-correct carbine handguard, and standard controls/furniture, including the GI charging handle and A2 pistol grip.

On New Year’s Day, Dead Air sent their “Asylum” loyalty program members an email announcing this release, one day before releasing the remaining packages to distributors for public sale. From the email:
“Extremely limited production. Make your decision fast.
ASYLUM MEMBERS get first dibs. After 24 hours we’ll release what’s left to the dealer network.
This email links to an unpublished page on our site where you can buy one, or two. Go ahead and get greedy just don’t rob any banks”

Some say the art of the shootout scene was mastered in the movie HEAT. So we’ve decided to master the art of the Colt 733 portrayed in the film. We’ve paired up with one of the best in the business to bring this nostalgic rifle to life. You get top notch craftsmanship throughout that only Noveske is known for. And perhaps the best part about it is the matching rifle & silencer serial numbers, both sporting the Dead Air + Noveske logo. Extremely limited production, you’ll likely never find a clone built to this high of standards.

The main departure from the original 733 design is this Forward Control Design flash hider, which serves as the mount for your numbers-matching Dead Air can.
