POTD: Green Beret with a MK17 SCAR-H rifle
TFB’s Photo Of The Day and we are looking (above) at a Green Beret assigned to the 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), as he fires an MK17 SCAR-H rifle.
SCAR is short for “Special Operations Forces Combat Assault Rifle” and the “H” stands for Heavy, which means it fires the 7,62×51 mm NATO round. You can see empty brass ejecting.
The target, in this case, is at 550-meters, at a training event near Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada.
The Green Beret uses data from the spotter within the sniper team to make accurate adjustments, allowing the team to effectively engage distant targets.
A Green Beret assigned to 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) records target information using a spotting scope during a training event near Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., Aug. 23, 2019. A spotter is a crucial member of a sniper team and provides the shooter with vital information such as target distance, description and holding values.
The mount and optics are from Leupold and the bipod is an Atlas from B&T Industries.
The photos are all by the U.S. Army, photo by Sgt. Steven Lewis.
The SCAR 17 is probably one of the lightest 7,62×51 mm semi-automatic rifles I have ever shot, and is high on my wish list. What’s yours?

Never having fired one, my opinion is this: love the look, hate the price. Not blaming anyone for that - good things cost money. I understand that, but several grand for a rifle is a bit rich for my blood.
I love the autism that scar topics brings out.
