Wilson Combat has released a new series of 1911 pistols called EXPERIOR. As the company describes, “the EXPERIOR lineup takes the lead as the most fully-optioned series we offer, showcasing nearly every tactical, functional and cosmetic option as a standard feature“. Currently, the following 10 handguns are included in the EXPERIOR series.
Seven of these pistols are single stack 1911s of different sizes and the remaining three are EDC X9 inspired double-stack guns in government, commander and compact size options. The major differences are between the single and double stack EXPERIOR pistols. The single stack pistols are available in 9mm or 45 ACP caliber options, feature carbon steel slides and frames with WAVE cut rails, black G10 grips with TRAK pattern, and round butt mag wells. The double-stack guns are chambered in 9mm only and feature aluminum frames, G10 grips with a Starburst pattern, and aluminum magazine wells. The double stacks also lack a grip safety which is seen on all single stack models.
The TRAK pattern seen on front straps and mainspring housings (and grips of single stack models) is a new Wilson Combat texture that resembles oversized flat top checkering.
Except for the differences described in the previous paragraph, most of the other features of EXPERIOR line of pistols are identical across the series. These features include the TRAK texture on front strap and mainspring housing, machined Bulletproof thumb safeties, hammers and magazine releases, 3.5-4.5 lb triggers with medium length pads, Wilson Combat Battlesights with red fiber optic front sights, stainless steel match grade barrels with flush cut reverse crowns, and externally fluted chamber areas of the barrels.
All single stack EXPERIOR pistols feature WAVE cuts on the frame rails. These relief cuts are designed to reduce friction and hold lubricant ensuring enhance operation in adverse conditions.
