Iraq's National Handgun: The 9mm Tariq
The 9mm Tariq is unique among Beretta enthusiasts because of its scarcity outside of Iraq. It is certainly one of the least studied due to the lack of primary sources and information in the firearms research community. But we try to take a crack at breaking down the Tariq’s history and symbolism behind topics like who it is named after, variations in the production models, and how it is used today on the Iraqi market. There were even “Gift” Tariq handguns that were presented to the families of Iraqi soldiers killed in the Iran-Iraq War.
It is quite a pity that gun collectors in the US and Europe cannot get ahold of these handguns more due to the legal difficulties of getting them back from Iraq.

Take back the slur of Hi-Point, please.
My Bn was domiciled in the Tariq machining factory for about 6 months in Al hillah after the invasion in 2003. Imagine a big, dirty, dusty warehouse with really crude machining equipment where all parts are hand assembled. Wasn't impressed, I wouldnt want to carry one in combat. They were the single action berettas, not the M9s we were carrying. If memory is correct, I think they were single stack as well. Not sure the parts were interchangeable either. We turned the factory over to the Polish as one of their headquarters in Oct 2003 when they arrived in Iraq.
