Savage Arms has introduced new iterations of some of their popular bolt action rimfire rifles combined under new series called Minimalist. What these rifles have in common is the new laminate wood stock. The Minimalist series currently includes the Mark II, Model 93 and Model 93R17 bolt action rimfire rifles. Each of these rifles is available in two stock color options – brown and green.

Here is what Beth Shimanski, Director of Marketing for Savage, said about this new rimfire rifle series in the company’s press release:

Minimalist combines the perfect balance of lightweight ergonomics and reliable performance. At just 5.68 pounds, they’re perfect for backyard plinking or hunting on the move. You can carry one all day and hardly feel it.

Generally speaking, the only major difference of the Minimalist bolt-action rimfire rifles is the caliber they are chambered in. The Mark II is chambered in the ever-popular .22 LR whereas the other two are magnum rifles with Model 93 being chambered in .22 WMR and Model 93R17 in .17 HMR. The .22 LR rifle has a 1:9″ twist rate and the barrels of .22 WMR and .17 HMR rifles come with a 1:16″ twist rate.

Most of the other features of these rifles are identical for all of them. All Minimalist series rifles feature 18″ (457mm) sporter contour carbon steel barrels with a black matte finish and 1/2×28 threaded muzzles covered by thread protectors, 10 round detachable box magazines, 2.5-6 lb adjustable AccuTriggers, right-hand actions made of carbon steel and also featuring black matte finish to match the barrels, as well as Weaver scope bases installed on the receivers. The overall length of each of these rifles is 37″ (940mm). The length of pull is 13.75″ (350mm).

Hmmm, I wonder if that means that they're having production or sales issues with their new A-series (made in their US plant) and B-series (made in the current Canadian rimfire plant) since those looked like direct replacements for the Model 64 and Mark II/Model 93.

    Sorry...just don’t see the point.
