Behold the Death, the fourth and last horseman of the Apocalypse. Meridian Defense Corporation has released the last rifle in their special project themed after the Four Horsemen of Apocalypse. MDC launched the Apocalypse series of AK rifles back in November 2018 with the introduction of the first rifle, Pestilence, followed by the War and Famine and finally about a year later from the launch of the series, the fourth rifle is announced. Here is how Meridian Defense Corporation describes the Apocalypse series of AK rifles.
APOCALYPSE AK SERIES
THE SPECIAL PROJECTS DIVISION “APOCALYPSE” AK RIFLES, ARE A LIMITED EDITION RUN OF FOUR DIFFERENT RIFLES, ALL BASED OFF OF THE FOUR HORSEMAN OF THE APOCALYPSE (PESTILENCE, WAR, FAMINE, DEATH). WE WANTED TO CREATE A UNIQUE SERIES OF RIFLES THAT ARE COMPLETELY NEW, THAT HAVE A “END OF THE WORLD” APOCALYPSE FEEL & LOOK, BUT WITHOUT SACRIFICING OUR BUILD QUALITY AND PRECISION PARTS THAT ARE ON ALL OF OUR RIFLES.
The MDC 74S Death is an AK-74 pattern rifle chambered in 5.45x39mm. It is built on an MDC receiver that is heat-treated to 40 HRC hardness, tumbled to ensure smooth cycling of the BCG and features the MDC’s Midnight Black Cerakote finish. The 4150 CMV barrel is also made by MDC and has a black nitrided finish/surface treatment. The length of the barrel is 14.5 inches and it is equipped with a pinned and welded MDC BD2-51T muzzle brake increasing the legal barrel length to 16″. According to MDC, this muzzle device “works in conjunction with AAC’s 51t improved ratchet mount sound suppressors“. Other US-made parts include the UltiMAK railed gas tube, ALG AKT trigger, Krebs Custom enhanced safety selector lever, Tango Down pistol grip, and the gas block/front sight block combination part.
Other components of the rifle are sourced from a Bulgarian side folding AK-74 parts kit with the exception of the Zenitco B-10M lower handguard. Besides the UltiMAK gas tube rail, the Death rifles also have a standard AK side scope rail.
The MSRP of the Meridian Defence Corporation MDC 74S Death rifle is $2,399. Instead of the mentioned muzzle brake, you can choose one of the six other optional muzzle devices. It is also possible to order a custom number printed on the stock. The Death rifle comes with one Magpul 5.45x39mm magazine, however, for an additional $90, you can order it with a quad stack 60 round magazine as shown in the pictures. The Magpul RVG grip is also an optional part and can be installed on the rifle for an additional $23. The shown scope and RS Regulate mount are not included. The estimated lead time for building these rifles is 4-6 weeks.
