POTD: Destroyer Squadron 15 Fires a Mark 45 5-inch Gun

Photo  Of The Day – The place where pictures of things that go Ka-Boom have a special place in our hearts. The picture above is extra sweet, as the photographer Marc Castaneda managed to freeze the projectile just before it is about to exit the picture.

The location is the Philippine Sea, and we’re looking at the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain as it fires its Mark 45 5-inch gun during a live-fire exercise.
