The Guns of Stranger Things Season 3

Earlier this year the Netflix original series Stranger Things debuted its highly anticipated 3rd season. While not specifically targeted at the gun-toting audience, Stranger Things brings plenty of firepower to the Home Screen. Today we’ll look at a few guns from Guns of Stranger Things Season 3. Obviously, if you haven’t seen Season 3 of Stranger Things be warned, there are minor spoilers ahead. Also, get out from that rock you’ve been hiding under.

    M16A2 rifle

With this season taking place in 1985 its no surprise that the M16A2 is featured in the show. However, the inconsistency here is that the Soldiers coming to combat the Russian base are part of the United States Army. For the historically inclined, you’ll note that the M16A2 was only adopted into the Marine Corps that year and the Army started issuing the M16A2 until 1988.

    Ak Pattern Rifles

I’m going to lump both these weapons into the same category for brevity. The AK was no doubt in heavy use by the Soviet Union in 1985. What is odd is that in the show, only one Krinkov style weapon is seen and it is used by Police Chief Hopper as he mows down some nefarious Russians.

Curiously one of the bad guys can be seen using a Zastava M92 (not an M85) with a PK-A optic on it. Obviously, this particular rifle wouldn’t be in use until at least 7 years after this show is supposed to take place.

Guns of Stranger Things Season 3 – S&W Model 66

Hopper takes center stage once again with his trusty Model 66 revolver. The Model 66 has accompanied Hopper since early in season one. The S&W Model 66 has been in more movies and television shows than I can remember and it’s easily recognizable on screen.

Unfortunately, Hopper loses his trusty sidearm during the course of one of the episodes. From then on, Hopper is forced to acquire weapons in situ.

    Tokarev TT-33 – suppressed

I saved this one for last because it took the cake for me when I saw it. While the Tokarev TT-33 wasn’t the prettiest pistol in the world or the most practical, in the show it got used in the most badass way possible – with a suppressor.

Both Chief Hopper and Nancy Wheeler get to use this Soviet Sidearm but only our boy Chief Hopper gets the chance to take it to battle with a suppressor on it. Resembling equal parts Browning Hi-Power and Colt 1911 the weapon is used by our protagonists to great effect. An interesting note is that the real TT-33’s suppressor is actually attached to slide as opposed to the barrel.
