POTD: Norwegian Task Unit Shooting a Carl Gustaf Recoilless Rifle in Al-Assad, Iraq

    Smile! Wait for flash!

Today our Photo Of The Day here at TFB is a picture from Al-Assad, Iraq, as Norwegian Soldiers from NORTU 5 (Norwegian Task Unit) tests an 84mm Carl Gustaf recoilless rifle.

The original design was introduced already in 1946, but modern versions of the Carl Gustaf are still in production and widespread. The U.S. Army uses the M3 MAAWS.

For instance, in 2015 the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic became the first country to order the new Carl-Gustaf M4.

The weapon is produced by Saab Bofors Dynamics.

It looks like the soldiers are carrying Heckler & Koch HK416s with Aimpoint red dots.
