TFB received an exclusive invite from Jonathan Faulkner and the good folks at BDU to attend their 2nd Annual Big Daddy Unlimited “Epic Shoot” 2019 being hosted at the 17 South Rod and Gun Club in Savannah, Georgia. While visiting the many manufacturers in attendance we came across a pretty unique accessory in the LEO Takedown.

While the idea of takedown rifles, or takedown AR-15s for that matter, is not a new concept by any means no one has made the concept loosely universal or easy. Through the simple use of anĀ Upper Receiver Coupling, Barrel Coupling and Gas Tube Cap (plus a few common gunsmith tools) you can basically turn any AR-15 rifle or pistol you own into a takedown version of itself. The self-titled product is touted as such:

    • Modify Existing Inventory or New Build
    • Concealed, Discreet Carry
    • Tactical Sling Backpack Rapid Deployment (less than 15 seconds)
    • Gross Motor Skills
    • No Handguard Twisting or Turning
    • No Latches or Levers
    • Durability and Reliability
    • 4140 Military Grade Steel
    • Immediate Barrel Swap (Caliber/Length) based on Tactical Requirements

With the basic know-how and shadetree gunsmithing skills needed to replace a handguard on an AR-15, you could retrofit your rifle or pistol to be even more compact and tote-able than ever before. A more complete description and explanation of the product can be attained from their thorough overview off of their website below:

The LEO TakeDown is rapid barrel removal and attachment technology. The LEO TakeDown retrofits direct impingement AR-15, M-4, M-16 service rifles, and direct blowback AR pistols that utilize a MILSPEC grade upper receiver. Designed for durability and reliability the LEO is made of military grade steel.

The Upper Receiver Case replaces the D-Ring assembly. The Barrel Coupling is designed to accept commercially available handguards and integrates with the Upper Receiver Case for a positive lock between the barrel chamber, the index pin, and the upper receiver.

With the LEO TakeDown, AR-15, M-4 and M-16 operators can integrate barrel takedown technology without sacrificing user customization, appearance or modular innovation.

This is meant to work on a standard .223 Rem/5.56mm NATO upper receiver; thus, it should be compatible with a multitude of favorite cartridges for AR-15 aficionados. A short sample list of the compatible cartridges can be read below:

    • 9mm, .40 S&W, . 45 ACP
    • .223 Rem, 5.56mm NATO, .224 Valkyrie
    • 6.8 Rem SPL, 6.5 Grendel
    • .450 Bushmaster, .458 SOCOM

The final element to the LEO Takedown you may want to know is the price, and currently, it is retailing for $299. As stated previously, the concept of a takedown AR-15 alone is not something new to the shooting world, but what do you think of this and its relatively universal nature? Let us know all of your thoughts in the Comments below! We always appreciate your feedback.
