Welcome everyone to the 33rd edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only have Fudd appeal?  Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you the readers found the Deadpool themed gat to be Fudd Crap.

It was a dark day for our hero themed gat, but honestly, I was expecting the results to be worse.  At this time the original auction remains up on GunBroker, and I can only hope that this fascination with Deadpool themed Glocks isn’t here to stay.

In this week’s edition of HGFC, we look at an Eagle Gun Co. Mark II in .45 ACP. As is tradition, this strange looking subgun is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $2,375.00.

Let’s see what the Staff had to say about this week’s offering:

“It’s like a tommy gun but for the poors” – Matt E.

“Hint: When everything looks wrong it usually is.” – Eric B.

    “I’ll call that a ThomsOFF instead of a ThompsON.” – Doug E.

“If it is a 1:10 scale reproduction of a firearm, it doesn’t look too bad” – Giorgio O.

““The Thompson’s homeless, alcoholic cousin.” – Will P.

“For the roaring 20s gangster who is on a budget “ – Luke C.

    “Sortofwant.jpg” – Pete

“The gun Al Capone made in prison out of license plate stamps and jail library furniture” – James Reeves

    “Sten/Thompson?  Stompson?” – Rusty S.

“gangsta light, and anemic” – Mike R.

Selling this comically themed gat is GunBroker seller riserange, located in Pearl River New York.  Let’s see what they had to say about this rare 60’s blaster.

RARE! Good condition. Very low round count. Has some minor surface scuffs and some possible VERY minimal surface rust in 2 small spots. Bore is very clean. No original box or owners manual. Comes with one magazine. No credit card fees.

Based on the information I could find, the Mark II was produced between 1964 and 1968 by Eagle Gun Company.  The company later went bankrupt and was sold to Phoenix Arms who produced the similar but slightly different Spitfire Carbine.  Aesthetically it’s no surprise that these guns were commonly referred to as the “Poor Man’s Thompson”.

The back half of the gun looks almost identical to a Thompson, but with a slightly different stock angle that looks a bit off.  Maybe this was done on purpose, but it’s anyone’s guess.

Looking at the foregrip on this gun is where things get strange.  It’s almost like a shade of OD green that I would expect to see on something like a Steyr AUG.  The ribs up top are even stranger and give it a sort of sci-fi ray gun look.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a 60’s subgun without some sort of terrible peep sight system.  These look to be about as useful as the sights on a Sten gun, but were probably more than adequate for this gun.

The Mark II is definitely an interesting piece of history, but with a price tag of over $2k, I think it’s going to be a hard sell.  Who knows, maybe I’m wrong and there’s a collector of retro subguns out there that needs this Mark II to finish their collection.

What do you think?  Is this Retro Subgun a Hot Gat or just wannabe Thompson Fudd Crap?  Be sure to let us know in the comments below, and cast your vote to let us know if this Eagle Gun Co. Mark 2 is a Hot Gat or Fudd Crap:
